• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. LOML has a chicken wire-fenced area into which she has been putting her prized plants. As far as we can tell, the fence is intact and all holes filled. This afternoon she had a bit of a panic as the ground had been disturbed by what looked like rabbit excavations. I had another walk round the fence and she went into the area and promptly fell into a burrow...inside which I then found six kits which were quickly despatched.

However as far as I can see there are no other burrows coming into where the kits were. To all intents and purposes the only entrance/exit is the one burrow and a quick Google suggests that the dam will cover over her brood to protect them from predators which begs the question.

How the hell did it get into the fenced area ?
 
Interesting. I really wouldn't know.

But on the other hand, a bit a rosemary and a bit of garlic, and that's next Sunday's lunch!

That's a good question and I did wonder that. However looking at the burrow it looks as if it has been filled in from above. Also when I excavated the nest, I didn't come across any other holes leading elsewhere.
 
The camera caught the mother inside the nursery ..clearly looking for its offspring. But no obvious sign of holes being dug up into the nursery area.

Where I used to work out in a country manor house, we had 24/7 security police and they were mainly "good ole local country boys" and set snares for rabbits. We could "order" one for the table in the coming day or so.

Maybe your local tradesmen or pub landlord could suggest someone local to oblige?

If you ask around you'll find that there are a lot of people that will come and clear your rabbits for free.

Either lamping or you'll get guys with ferrets who want to work them.

You're in the wrong part of the country for anyone I know.

Bastard rabbit dug another bloody great burrow in the fenced area...damned if I can see how they are getting in. Just got back with a load of mesh to dig into the ground around the perimeter f the fence. Bang goes the renovation plans for the day :evil:

The call is out for a ferretman and I will probably wait up tonight with my rifle.

Why not trap it, give a big fat rabbit-punch, hang it up, let it cure and voila we have pie! 8-)
 
Having watched Jasper, I reckon the rabbits would adopt the owl as their mascot!

I'm thinking about getting a drop trap...
 
Well good news is that no further activity overnight. So maybe it was all the holes in the fence after all. Still getting the ferret man in.
