Thoroughly enjoyed the summer last week. We ate our supper outside on three consecutive nights..rather jolly with a nice bottle of vino.

Ah well, all good things come to an end. There's always next years' Summer to look forward to. :eusa-think:

OK I'll admit that this is probably my fault. I am in the UK visiting my family and it is the first time in 10 years that my wife has come with me. I finally persuaded her to come over and visit as it was going to be summer and the weather should be lovely. One week in and she is now reminding me why she couldn't live here. So sorry to everyone who's summer I have ruined. Next year I will get back to visiting in either April or September so as not to disturb the few nice days that you normally get

Absolutely. No heating on here and we are still self sufficient in solar heated water. Enough energy from good light levels even if the sun is absent.

I'm not sure if I would install solar thermal DHW now, the Renewable Heat Incentive payments won't cover the capital cost and the payback period will be very long indeed. Our combined PV/ST system only makes sense as We are on the highest Feed In Tariff from about 6 years ago.
Our total energy bill is negative but impossible to achieve that for new adopters
Ignoring the economics, We are only self sufficient in DHW as a result of diverting all excess PV into the thermal store. You buy or build the diverters as I believe you are into electronics.

I have often thought that running a few meters of copper pipe thought a sealed black box with a glass top to feed heated water into a storage tank then have this tank feed the water heater or boiler would be quit easy to do. Round tuit way down the list though.

There are four weather systems that are in constant conflict over the UK, which is why our weather is so varied and although it's incredibly difficult to forecast, it does make for interesting conversation. Personally, if I could guarantee what the weather would be from one week to the next, I'd be bored out of my skull. The only time I want totally sunny weather is when we go camping'

Our house is fine hovering around 21 degree mark in the early evening. On damp cloudy days like we have been having for the past 3 weeks or so the air outside my workshop, which is well insulated, often feels warmer than the air inside. I find opening the door and window helps. As my insulated workshop is one half of an otherwise uninsulated barn the barn is often warmer than the workshop during the spring & summer.

I went out on a bike ride, going up a small lane not far from home, rode though 4 inches of water running back down the road. Did this for about 100 yards. Some distance on I turned into to Wash Lane, came round a corner and found I was knee deep, stopped and back tracked on to the foot bridge which only had an inch of water on it.

20 degrees here but we avoided most of the rain. I live on a hill with no rivers nearby (2 miles away) on chalk downlands so little chance of floods?

As for the weather. Since the storms of Sunday night/Monday morning all my healthy looking potatoes are now laying over as if blighted, they have not yet even flowered. We've dug up 3 so far and they are gorgeous.

Mmmmm...maybe. I seriously think that the Brexiteers don't realise the folly of their actions. Look at the hit on our pension funds in just one morning ? If the pound stays this low against the dollar then all those nice US woodie tools are going to get a big price hike and you can bet that the importers will add on another dollop for the uncertainty of the future.

The FTSE 100 has been lower that the current price (6037) 7 times in the last year. It goes up and down - that is is what is does.

In any case funds destined for pension use should not be in volatile areas of the market in the last few years prior to draw down. :shock: :shock:

Picking up on Rod's comment in another thread re the weather.. I am 100% in accord with him. It's not just the rain. Bob mentioned that he has had record sunshine. That's as maybe but sunshine does not equate necessarily with heat ! And it was damn cold in April and May. We have been having a log fire for the last few nights. Impossible to plan for anything outside such as decorating. Not cut the grass for ages as you sink into the ground.

As far as June goes, it was a total washout. Our garden is all but over - the rain decimated the blooms before they even had chance to fully develop. The Netherlands have had similarly crap weather and at least one grower has lost almost all his crop of flowers.

I keep a weather eye (see what I did there ? ) on the windsurfing in Greece and they're not doing that well either.

And I see it is raining later on today. And tomorrow. Temperature-wise, it's struggling to get above 17 degrees for the rest of the week. It's July - FFS! There is supposed to be a 2 at the front of the temperatures !!
