Outside tap

Postby Lurker » 23 Sep 2021, 12:48

Well winter is not far away and I need a posh cover for my outside tap.
Anyone got any suggestions or links?

Seen quite a few different ones over the years this style seems quite good, lots of different brands but basically the same.

Or Wilko do a wrap around cover

I bought one like that about 8 years ago from Wickes and it’s still in one piece. Not bad as I think I only paid £2.99 for it. :D

Old football sock. Fill with insulation wool. Put over tap.
Don't like: wood, engines, electrickery, decorating, tiling, laying stone, plumbing, gardening or any kind of DIY. Not wild about spiders either.

Better if you can have an internal isolating valve. Close the valve then open the tap, and you are safe from a burst. If you need the tap at all in winter, then open the valve, use the tap, then close the valve and open the tap again.

They have some nifty ones here in the States, when you turn the tap off it drains a small amount out the bottom of the tap to empty the pipe leading into the property, not sure quite how it works sorry. Ian,
