Another Jewellery Box

This is where we don't want anything but evidence of your finest wood butchering in all its glorious, and photograph laden glory. Bring your finished products or WIP's, we love them all, so long as there's pictures, and plenty of 'em!

Another Jewellery Box

There is a bit of a sad back story to this box.

A very good friend died suddenly on the Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend last year.

Without going off at a tangent don’t have a heart attack on a weekend and particularly not a bank holiday one as great though the NHS are your chances of survival are significantly lower.

His wife was tidying out the garage and laughing about all the stuff he’d kept when I spotted and rescued a piece of mahogany that was heading for a bonfire. It didn’t look like anything special but a couple of weeks ago I cleaned it up and found a rather attractive flame pattern.

Once combined with some Bubinga veneer, feather inlay and Rosewood banding it’s made a rather nice jewellery box for Pete’s daughter.

I’ve made and gifted plenty of boxes but this is the only one that’s brought a tear to the eye!

Thats lovely.
I keep thinking I should up my game and try veneer, but I think I would lose patience and ruin it. I was lucky and survived my 2 heart attacks last month, I'm thinking I should make the most of my second chance. :eusa-whistle:

Lovely work.
