A month ago I had to top up the 4 port seed feeder every other day. Now, hardly anything. It was the same last year from the middle of July. Any explanation? I'm guessing that many of the young birds have now flown the nest and are beginning to forage for themselves, and the parents have less to do?
Or maybe a naturally occurring food has become available that they prefer?
I too have noticed this and we keep the feeder with some seed in all year round. So far I've not been able to correlate consumption with weather/season/phase of the moon or anything else.
Consumption of the 400gram that the feeder holds can vary between 2 days and nearly 2 weeks.
