Pay as you go sim advice wanted

Postby woodstalker » 07 Dec 2021, 15:38

Hi all,

I need a separate phone number for work so that people can get hold of me because I don’t want to share my personal number. I was thinking a cheap pay as you go sim in an old handset would do the job but don’t want to get disconnected if it’s not used for a few months.

It’ll mainly be for incoming calls and SMS and I’ll make the odd call/SMS out.

Any recommendations?

(Yes I know if work want me to have a phone number for work they should provide one but that’s not going to happen and I could do without the hassle of being difficult about this.)

No idea about true pay as you go, but if you're going to end up making a few calls then one of the SIM only deals may be worth looking at, cheapest seems to be £3.50 a month. Not sure what that equates to on a PAYG phone.

Personally we have 3 iD mobile SIM only deals in the house, works great for lighter usage and we manage to find old phones from family members who have contracts!

Have you thought of a sim only deal. They can be as low as £4 per month. All you'd have to do is provide the phone.

Thye'd come with so much data a month and probably unlimited texts and calls.

1Pmobile works well for me. Runs on EE No contract
1p per minute, 1p per megabyte & 1p per text minimum spend per month £2.50
If you don't consume as much as £2.50, they take the balance at the end of the month
I can provide Intro link that benefits us both if you like.

Whichever route you go, check which mobile network and coverage.

giffgaff works very well for me. I also can offer mutually beneficial intro links. :D

I'm on Lebara, SIM only, £5 month 30 day rolling contract, unlimited calls and texts, 2gig data, got it through moneysaving expert. Uses Vodafone network.

Thanks gents, i am on a Sim only deal for my personal phone with Smarty which works well for me but i figured Pay as you go was a bit more "disposable" in the long run once it has served it's purpose.

will check coverage.

PAYG is what I use for the SIM inside my router dongle for when the landline connection goes down.

I meant to say i have a referral code (free month each) for Smarty if anyone is after a Sim only deal, its month on month with no contract or exit fee and has been a good deal for me.
