Timber suppliers map

Postby 9fingers » 09 Dec 2018, 21:44

Every now and then we have members asking for suggestions for places to buy timber.

I've been working on a map for a little while now and the mods have been testing it so it is time to release it to you lot.

I'm not claiming that it is by any means complete and the idea it the members can have look at the map in there area and if there are suppliers missing then please reply to this topic with the details and I'll add them to the map.

I've deliberately not muddled the map with lots of details of what the suppliers specialise in. The feeling is that from the name, it is easy to Google for up to date information from their website. It also gets round any issue of our map giving incorrect information or opinions that the supplier might object to.

Please check out this link and see what you think

It's working for me, Bob. Thanks for your work on this.

So, do we let you know of suppliers we know? And sawmills?

Suffolk Tree Services

Blewets

The latter for feather-edge boards and other cladding, so more useful for workshop builds than furniture making.

Ridgeons

Ridgeons has dozens of branches throughout East Anglia, and its own sawmill. It has a very strong timber offering, particularly in softwood, but also in basic hardwoods, particularly oak, and tropical products such as meranti etc.

Thanks Mike. I've put the first two on and will have a think on the best way to do all the ridgeons branches.

Thank you to those members who have chipped some extra suppliers for the map.

Keep 'em coming please.

When our esteemed admin has some free time, the plan is to include a link on each page in the same way as the members map is linked but in the meantime I've made this thread a sticky announcement to keep it visible on each board.

Thanks for confirming Andy.

I'm using Ios9 of some flavour or other so it does seem fairly tolerant of older operating systems.

It is a standard google feature, and works on my Win Xp Pcs too.

It just opens Google maps but it doesn’t show any timber merchants.

I’m on an iPad Pro 10.5 running 12.1.4

I’ve tried a different browser and it works now by opening Google maps within the browser and shows the timber merchants. It wasn’t doing this with Safari it was just opening Google Maps.
