• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Time trial in our local town Caen, great spectacle, but TBH the publicity caravan is more fun than watching the racers go by,
only had my phone so pictures not easy:).

Nice blurred back wheel :)
Apparently they came through our neighbouring village last year (though not sure if it was the TDF or another race). We went to see and had missed the last one by half an hour :(

I remember escorting the Milk Race through three counties a few decades ago.

It's always exciting to watch even if it goes past in a blink! I'm not an avid road race fan, but I've seen the opening stage the last two times it was in the UK, local to me in 2007 and then in 2014 we planned our holiday so that we could see it in Yorkshire. Our children were quite young, after waiting for half a day I think the best bit for them were the massive Miffys in the publicity caravan!

Can’t they afford proper wheels with spokes

The price of those solid carbon fibre disc wheels is eye-watering...........as is the price of the whole bike. That's £10,000 to £20,000 worth of kit there in that photo. They'll only ride those solid wheels if it is a windless day, because otherwise they get blown sideways across the road. They make quite an odd noise as they whoosh by at 35 or 40mph.

Ah..... the race of truth! I've gone under the hour on a 25 a few times which is decent for "normal" club riders. Slug like for these guys however!
And despite popular belief, obviously equipment matters, but the returns diminish almost as fast as the riders move.
My TDF highlight is shaking hands with George Hincapie in London in 2007, he was freewheeling around marble arch looking a bit lost!
