• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

When did they become pants. I remember when you would have a sentence a word or whatever and you would get lots of results from everywhere in your results. Now you just get an AI rubbish response and a few adverts trying to sell something. I feel as if information is being restricted.

I think these day is there are so many A.I. generated sites out there, most of which are nonsense or worse. It gets to the slightly daft situation that you need an A.I. to filter out all the A.I. slop.

For what it's worth, duckduckgo.com seems the best search engine for not having too much in the way of advertising & other clutter.

Try Duckduckgo, wallace. You get results which aren't biased by what people pay, it isn't swamped with advertising, and your searches aren't tracked. I've been using it for years, and find it a huge leap above Google, given what shows up when my wife, who won't swap, does a search.

For what it's worth, some browsers (Vivaldi at the very least) allow easy temporary switching of search engine.

Like Mike, I mostly use duckduckgo, but very, very occasionally I find google gives better results.

If you normally search using the browser address bar (as accessed with Ctrl-L or clicking up the top of the window) by typing (say) "something something" it'll go to your default search engine (duckduckgo in my case). If instead you type "g something something", Vivaldi will do the same search in google. There are prefix characters for quite a few search engines (and you can add your own):

I use Google and DuckDuckGo- without Ai, must say I find the Ai on Google handy sometimes when I’m really pushing the boundaries and don’t know what to ask for, it often will give me that one word that then directs me to what I really should be looking for.
