• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I wouldn't bother... they break around the clamp end of the lever quite easily IME

    Cutting brass door knob

Bore appropriate size hole in piece of hardwood which is the thickness of the part that you are leaving behind, make a sawcut in the wood to allow you to clamp it in vice around the brass, cut with hacksaw against the wood.

    Table saw mitre

Have a look at making a crosscut sled.

What is my best way of protecting oak skirting board and architrave?

Having just completed a large area of oak flooring and skirting plus much experience in this regard, I would strongly recommend Osmo polyx oil. Proceed with caution re a water based varnish.... just not as good as an oil based finish in any way.

    1950s Joinery Workshop

I served my time in a pretty old Joiners shop with an adjoining mill with machinery dating from the 30's, it was a bit of a standing joke to say that it was more dangerous to adjust the guards than to leave them alone!

But that wouldn't have got you where you are today.

    Reclaimed sapele

Its all Iroko. I've worked with more teak than (probably) most. Its iroko. Here is my house (and my Diston handsaws)

    Reclaimed sapele

As I said, Iroko. I cannot be more certain.... and believe me I've used a lot of it. I'll put my house and even my tools on it. That's not teak.

    Reclaimed sapele

Iroko 100% complete and utter certainty. As a DT Teacher, I've recycled more old Science table tops than I care to remember. As a past Yacht Joiner I've also used a fair bit (and breathed it in!) No doubt whatsoever... the colour and the grain are unmistakable and whilst it isn't a million...

    Keeping out water?

From the photo, it looks like that "tenon" is lacking a vital part?

It's curtains for me - what on earth do I do with this?

Or come up with a feature driven designed board that fixes to that timber?
