Table saw mitre

I have a Startrite 165 and want to make a better mitre guide for it.
Problem is with the slot which is just a channel about 5-6mm deep and around 19mm wide, so non of the off the shelf runners are any use.

Has anyone got suggestions?
Are there other folks here with similar saws?

This is my current lash up and it works adequately, I just want something a bit nicer.

I already have one that I am happy with.
But for some tasks it isn’t suitable.

@Lurker The width of that slot/ bar will be an Imperial measurement, not Metric. I believe it will be 3/4" wide x 1/4" deep.
Perhaps an American aftermarket model may be an option...?

That style of cast alloy mitre gauge that you have, was supplied as standard by Startrite with the 125, 145 and 165 saws.
The better, heavier duty mitre gauge they offered was supplied with the 175 and 275 saws. They do come up for sale quite regularly but still go for a pretty high price. Both options are interchangeable with each other and will fit all the saw models I mentioned above, as the table slot is the same size on all of them.

I just took a better look at your picture and although the alloy casting looks original, I dont think the rectangular bar is? Is your bar alloy as well?
On an original, the bar is steel and the alloy casting is mounted at one end of the bar by means of a pivot hole for a pin on the underside and another threaded hole for the locking knob. I can't see two holes at one end on yours.
Perhaps a previous owner sourced a section of bar the incorrect size and just fitted the original alloy casting himself....? Does yours have quite a bit of side to side play when fitted in the table slot...? I'm just guessing really!

The slot on my saw is wider than the standard 19mm or 3/4". But I wanted a good mitre gauge. After much consideration I bought the Inca and stole a chopping board from the Kitchen which I cut and planed to a tight fit then carefully screwed the mitre gauge to the plastic. 3 years on and it is still excellent. Although I do check the cut rather than assuming it is correct.

I knew that the slot must have been imperial, but my brain works in metric most of the time
The thing in the photo was something that I had made from parts, nothing to do with the startrite. The aluminium bar was a bit I had that was the correct thickness and I cut it slightly over width and then sanded the edges on a board and slowly crept up to a snug fit width wise.
I would be interested to see a startrite original, but from what you are saying it’s not greatly different?
Edit: just found a picture on e bay, as you said it looks like mine, just a coincidence however.

You comment reminded me that I had some of those chopping boards, so I had a rootle. I found one still in its wrapper that I bought from Sainsbury’s years ago, in a sale (I knew they would come in useful one day ).
And it is a perfect thickness
My workshop is too hot to work in at the moment but I’ll make myself a couple of runners to have a play around with.
