• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Google AI or ChatGPT

I agree that the word intelligence seems out of place, it takes you in a non digital direction. I was talking about an RTOS on a single CPU so to perform true multitasking you must need more than a single core otherwise you have to do a little of each task very fast, I suppose multi threading...

    Google AI or ChatGPT

Can AI be more inteligent than it's creator, ie humans. It can logically sort data very fast and so appears to be some super brain but look at a real time operating system which appears to multitask, ie does many things at once but in reality it is not. It actually does just one thing at a...

Not a straight edge - a cautionary tale.

It just shows that buying quality is a good long term investment.

Not a straight edge - a cautionary tale.

Easy way to check a level is to rotate 180 degree's and it should show the same bubble position. The Stabilla ranges with milled edges are a good level, the 86 range with rubber endcaps is great but not if you are laying bricks . If you want better precision, often to precise then look...

    Smart Phone - done!

Just don't go there, these phones for some reason are addictive and turn people in zombies who just cannot stop looking at that screen. They are not social in any way and just isolate people who live in some other fictitious world.

Geberit Type 240 and Type 340 mechanisms

Always a good idea to keep things simple, a ball cock is basic and been around for years whilst all these new fangled toilets with fancy operating ideas can become very expensive to fix. Also whilst we are here has anyone questioned why some toilets are square, you get a lot of rounded...

8mm diamond drill bit recommendations sought

These will make working with cement board look easy, I had around twenty five to drill when fitting a shower and found no single drill bit was that great on its own. I used a combination of bits that worked but took time. The first issue is to get through that glaze, here a decent tile...

    Banking Apps

And they had people behind the counter who were mostly willing to help, now in the few that are left some kid shows you to a fancy ATM that he tells you can do anything you need to, if only.

Hi look at the Milwaukee installation driver kit , I have found it very handy over the years but not if you are driving large 4 inch screws, all the other stuff it is fine...

    Festool TS55 lock washer problem

You used a good saw to cut cement board with, if you still lived up the road from me I would have droped my old Bosch saw of with a PCD blade in for you to use. As for finding a washer, get a decent magnet on a pole and you stand a chance. I lost a spring from a machine that I know landed...

    Do NOT buy NoMorePly

I should have said that plasterboard is not A1 fire rated, it is paper backed and is why it is not allowed under the HETAS regs for close proximity to a woodburner as it is classed as a combustable material. There is fire resistant plasterboard that has a 30 minute rating which is time to...

    Do NOT buy NoMorePly

The biggest use of these cement based boards is in wet areas like showers because they are not effected by prolonged exposure to damp unlike plaster board or MDF. Plasterboard is not fire rated at all, it cannot be used within a given distance of something like a woodburner so cement board is...
