• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

WEN BG4270T 10-Inch Water Cooled Wet Sharpening System and the TORMEK Stone Grader. Make an ADAPTER...

With a big enough drill depth stop (or perhaps a penny washer glued or just held to the depth stop), could you run the nail (or one of these bench grinder dressers) along the 12 mm bar that the jigs run on? For Ian's grinder I'd just use one of those diamond dressers with a drill stop and run...

    We've been invaded.....

I was curious about it being a narrow definition (I thought guano was all bird "poo", although I think I heard the word first when referring to seagulls) so I checked Chambers for a UK dictionary def: guano noun (guanos) 1 the accumulated droppings of large colonies of bats, fish-eating...

    That's a handy tip, thanks

    We've been invaded.....

I'm not professing to have any expertise on the subject, but I would suggest that the people best placed to work out whether there is a problem are either the restaurant proprietor (Adrian) or the Food Standards Agency. If Adrian is (as I suspect) doing a thorough job of cleaning his food...

A small project with a difficult joint

I'm quite happy with it going a bit darker. These two were both Sycamore (from the same timberyard) finished with Mike's Magic Mix: The box specifically... Lives on my desk at work (along with a walnut tea caddy) so with the bookshelf being finished in MMM it should fit quite well in my...

A small project with a difficult joint

Ian (@Cabinetman) suggested I put my logo on the front wedge as well so it can be seen. I pondered on that idea overnight and decided to go for it. I brought the second wedge in, used some magnets to clamp it in place on the 3D printer's bed, spent some time tweaking angles to make sure it...

    Reclaimed bookcase - finished

Great result Andy and (as always) really interesting to read the ways you go about making things. Thanks for sharing.

A small project with a difficult joint

If anyone's interested in David Charlesworth's approach to gluing, I've found that a relevant extract from one of his videos is on youtube. I couldn't find a youtube-available similar extract of the drawer making one (which goes into a bit more detail of his justification if memory serves me...

WIP - my version of Dr Al’s travel tool chest and workbench

Those tenons look like a really good fit in the mortices. Lovely job.

A small project with a difficult joint

I think it's a bit late to change that now, but thanks for the suggestion anyway. Purely decorative. I wanted something to add a bit of interest to the top of the upright (rather than just having a flat top which might look a bit dull) and since I'd hidden the dovetails in the mitre joint I...

A small project with a difficult joint

Incidentally, one of the things I really like about only putting glue on the sides of tails & pins is how much quicker it is. For gluing a box together it only takes a few seconds to do each board & I find the overall process less stressful as a result. I suspect I'd still slather it on...

Thanks Mike The gap filling thing is an interesting thought and one I don't think I would have considered. Not that my woodwork ever has any gaps of course, no sir! 🥸🤥🤣

A small project with a difficult joint

Thanks (that definitely makes it easier! Hmm, interesting thought. I'll ponder on that one. I imagine it would help a bit, but I (obviously) have no idea how much. I used to slather glue everywhere I could see but then watched two of David Charlesworth's videos (the drawer making one & the...

A small project with a difficult joint

Thanks Andy. Yes I'm sure there are plenty of other one we've both got (including the two you gave me that I seem to recall you had two copies of!). I suspect there will be less overlap if/when I post a photo of the books that'll be on there more permanently :)

WIP - my version of Dr Al’s travel tool chest and workbench

Looking great Steve. I'm really pleased you've decided to post a WIP of your build. I know for sure that I'm going to enjoy this - the tool chest is still probably my favourite of all the projects I've done and now I get to experience it all again vicariously!

A small project with a difficult joint

I wasn't expecting to have much time in the workshop for a few weeks but I managed an hour or so tonight and reached a major milestone. The first job was to do a little bit of simple maths to work out offsets and then to scribe a couple of lines on the ends of the two parts: After setting up...

    Football

I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment, but I'm surprised at it from you. I would have expected it to be the right shape, but the wrong size ball for you 😉

Make a workshop knife from a reciprocating saw blade.

Use a brand new one to cut up a ceramic tile. Then you'll have a suitably worn out one 🤣

The Bas…..s got me 11 times

When I was about 10, I was walking in the woods near our house with a friend and climbed over a fallen tree. The tree had a wasps nest hidden in it and I inadvertently trod on it. The wasps chased my friend and me all the way home and we both got stung loads of times (I didn't count). Ever...
