• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Unusual winter weather.

@duke was asking between two years 1963 or 1964. I wasn’t saying we’ve not had bad winters since though 1963 is generally considered the worst winter in living memory, it was the last time the river Thames froze enough to be walked on.

All the best for 2026 - any resolutions?

Yeah happy new year to all you forumites, I don’t do resolutions but as 2025 was such a tumultuous year I’m certainly hoping 2026 will be an awful lot calmer. Have a good one folks 🤞

Can’t recommend a brand as I don’t remember the make of mine but I much prefer the old needle type, tried a digital one but soon went back to my old faithful 🙂

Sorry I thought you’d bought it

Lie Nielsen No. 60 1/2 Block Plane

That has had a hard life  My own will be 20 years old in February, the only Lie Nielsen plane I ever owned, they’re a good plane but you do have to keep the blade edge fairly square as there’s very little lateral adjustment. I’m sure it will be a good user once you’ve fettled it Dan.

    Falls (not water)

    Dry January

There’s only me at home Boxing Day so an ideal time to break out the jigsaws, I like 500 piece puzzles as I can do them in 3 to 3 & a 1/2 hours so they aren’t hanging around for days & I'm not getting it in the neck for clogging up the dining table.

What tools did you buy for yourself for xmas.

I treated myself back in November to a 15 piece Forstner bit set, I waited for the tool show so I could get some discount, I tend to stick with the Famag brand as I’ve been very impressed with the quality.

    Dry January

I like a challenge but that’s a step too far  😂 😂 I stuck to the red wine this afternoon so the pieces went together without force ;)

    Antique Stanley Line Level

It’s a DeWalt one Scott, I was a reluctant convert but after working with a chap who had one I saw the advantages.
