• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Bass build

Well Malc has nothing to worry about, this will not be anything like as skill full as his Martin build! I many years ago played a bass, a Shaftesbury P bass copy, I have bought the plans for a P bass and I do intend to build one from scratch, but this is not a build from scratch. I have been...

    Tapatalk?

I have been using tapatalk pro on my phone and tablet for years, but today it has lost The Woodhaven! If I try to add it into my groups, when I do a search for the forum it throws an error, no number, it just says Oops! We couldn't find 'thewoodhaven2', try something else! I have tried a...

Mike, I have had a look for the drawing, do the dimensions on this look right? I will have a look for some oak off cuts and let you know what I find.

    BAS315 Blade guides

I have a quite old, bought second hand BAS315, which has done some serious work at times, however the last time I was using it the blade broke. On replacing the blade I found that the top guide bearing were no longer parallel with the blade! The guides on these saws are a set of die cast metal...

    New Tools (loads of pictures)

I have made a tool handle for some carbide insert tools I bought online. Here are the tools: They sell a handle for them, which I bought: However I was not impressed with it, its made from an aluminium tube and uses 2 grub screws to hold the shaft of the tool. It is so light that I find it a...

    Home made CNC

Some of you may remember this thread about cutting brass, where I was thinking of buying a small CNC machine. Well I looked at a number of them and thought why not have a go at making one, lots of bits are listed on the dreaded ebay so I bought a collection of things which I have cobbled...

    Feeling a bit sad....

We have just come back from the vets, we had made a hard decision before we went that Iona our grand old Samoyed had suffered enough with back legs that had become difficult to use. Here she is yesterday enjoying the nice weather, along with Skye. Iona didn't quite make 14, missed it by a few...

    A Little Somethimg for Christmas

The last thing needed to complete this is a fan, I showed the hub I made. The blades are two part, the blades are made from cedar, Mike best stop reading now, I cut up an old drafting table to make these. Resawing into thin strips and planing them down to 3mm. Sorry no pictures, but I did use a...

    A Little Somethimg for Christmas

I turned a centre column with a tenon on its base to fit a hole on the revolving base. This had a 3mm hole though it, I had to buy some long series drills to do that job. Then two support pillar need turning. The centre column has a length of 3mm silver steel pushed though the hole with a...

    A Little Somethimg for Christmas

There is a hub that needs 12 holes in its edge. This is turned between centres. Then with a home made drill guide setup in the tool rest support, I unpluded the lathe and for the first time used the indexing pin. Then the first of the 12 holes was drilled. The index pin was wound out and the...

    A Little Somethimg for Christmas

I machined some thin boards for the bases, there are two. One the the feet fit to and a thinner one that mounts on the centre column, I marked the centres for these and cut them roughly to size on the bandsaw, then mounted them on a screw chuck to turn them to the finished sizes. The stationary...

    A Little Somethimg for Christmas

The feet are little bits of flat stock with a couple of holes for dowel and a rounded end. They were cut using a stop on the mitre guide on the Wadkin. A simple jig allows the holes to be drilled. At different distances from each end, by using two stops, with one drill position. Then over to...

    A Little Somethimg for Christmas

I have a subscription to Woodturning magazine and this is based on a two part project that Colwin Way did. All of the timber came from things I have been given as fire wood, but it was much too good for that. I used my old Wadkin, Multico and Perform, saw, planer and thicknesser to get down to...

    Patio Table

The table has been given a coat of Teak garden furniture oil. And here is the table folded down. That is Skye, our new samoyed, he oversaw the whole build with an interested eye. This was made in August but I have been a bit busy so its a late posting, sorry.

    Patio Table

I bought a new parasol, the base for it was not very stable so a patio table with a hole for the parasol to stand in. I looked at lots of different ones online, the one I found on the B and Q site: I did look at buying one but the details just said it was made of wood, not any sort of wood...

    European Woodworking Show, Cressing

There were some chaps doing some green oak framing and I of course thought of Mike, here one of them is cutting a curve with a nice green toy. I think they came from near Colchester, so quite local.

    Tyre for EB315 bandsaw

While trying to cut the end off a length of half an ash log, I manage to jam the top wheel of my bandsaw. On removing the log the plastic blade shield that slides up and down in the top guide support had wedged in to the wheel, causing the tyre to snap. I have had a quick search and at the...

Plane from eBay broken in the post

I have been watching eBay for sometime waiting for a Record 311, a complete one with both front sections to come along at a reasonable price, well it happened at the weekend. I bought it for £60 + £2.80 postage. It had arrived today, while I was out and unfortunately it has been dropped in it...
