• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Circular saw blade sharpening

We've discussed this before but despite searching I only found one thread on the subject with only one suggestion. I need to get a tracksaw blade and a tablesaw blade sharpened. My old go to person is no longer doing it. Can anyone link to the previous threads where companies have been...

    Replacing a hanging tile

I've got 3 gables that are tile hung with plain clay tiles. One of the winchester cuts has fallen off for reasons unknown. Its only about 4 years old so in otherwise good condition. Is it possible to replace a single hanging tile without stripping the tiles above? There is remarkably very...

Left or right sided circular saw?

I'm looking to buy a new battery circular saw (not a tracksaw, happy with what I have there). It'll probably be makita as I already have several batteries. However I'm undecided whether to get a blade left or a blade right saw. Theres several reasons for and against each side, which also...

Where to sell metal working tools

I've just listed my Myford Super 7 for sale in the for sale section. It occurs to me that as much as I would hope this sells here that it might not as this is a woodworking forum predominantly. As far as I can tell there aren't any rules about listing for sale items elsewhere at the same time...

    What’s this?

Not mine, was a search result when looking for a sander. Described as a heavy duty horizontal sanding machine the disc itself is 2 foot across. What is it designed for? All I could think of was for sharpening long planer blades. Mark

    Knee pads

Anyone got any recommendations for a pair of knee pads please. Rather not spend more than £25 if possible and ideally from either toolstation or screwfix so I can easily pick up. There seem to be both hard shell and gel types available is one better than the other? I have the insert type...

How much is this Myford Super 7 worth?

I know we have the people on here with the knowledge to answer this question. Just looking for a ball park at the moment. Back ground is I bought this on a whim several years ago from a friend whos father (the owner) had just died. Though I wasn't actively looking for one it had been my...

    Flexi hose

Does anyone have any experience of the difference between the standard and heavy duty flexi hose that dust spares sell (100mm). I’m wondering if the extra for the heavy duty is worth it or not. Is the heavy duty too stiff for example or is the normal easily damaged? These 2...

    switch

I have a couple of workshop air filters. They are on 13 amp plugs but there is no separate switch, they have to be turned on and off at the wall socket. Where I am about to instal them the wall socket will be awkward to lean over to all the time. So I'd like to wire a switch into the power...

Pipe transition from rectangular to round

Anyone know a good way of transitioning from the rectangular output of a blower to a round pipe? Outlet is 11.5 x 15.5 mm internal. Transitioning to a 6 inch pipe. Any help gratefully received Mark

Cutting a 4 inch hole in steel sheet

I need to cut a four inch hole in the steel lid of a barrel. I’m guessing that the steel is about 1.5mm thick but happy to be corrected if they are a standard thickness. I’d like to do a neat job not just hack at it. Options considered are jigsaw but I dread to think how many blades I’d get...

How many horses are in my motor?

I bought this motor years ago and then never used it. But I want to use it now. There is no motor plate on it. How do I tell how many HP/watts it is? It’s bloody heavy. The cable out of the nvr is 1mm. There is then a proper gash join to what I think is 1.6mm cable (yellow!), which has a...

    Hedge plants

Evening all, I’m looking into the idea of planting a new hedge. We currently have screening to the building next door by way of some big conifers that the previous owner planted decades ago. These have had their main trunks removed years ago and I have just had them halved but they are still...

Farrow and Ball and RAL colours

I seem to remember a post showing a resource that showed the nearest RAL colour to any particular F and B paint. Can't find it on a search, anyone remember the post or indeed the chart within it? Been staring at RAL and FB colour charts and its driving me mad trying to work it out. This is...

    What colour mastic….

……would you use on these windows? Mrs Bear, the guy doing it, and myself all have differing opinions on what colour mastic to use on these windows. I’ll keep my opinion to myself for now so not to influence anyone, obviously it needs to something I can actually buy so nothing too random. For...

    Retaining Wall Construction

Evening everyone, Can anyone point me towards any resources online for me to read (or watch) regarding the construction of retaining garden walls please. The background is that I need some rebuilt as I remodel the garden. When I say rebuilt I use that term loosely as what is there is walls...

    Oak Featheredge Cladding

Hello all, I need to buy some oak featheredge for the gables of the garage to replace the painted shiplap that is currently there and not in keeping (and rotten). I've done a bit of research but still have a few questions, if anyone has any helpful answers. Is oak featheredge for this purpose...

    None Openning pitched roof windows

Hi all, I'm after a non opening roof window for a pitched garage roof, well 2 actually (plain clay tiles). I have experience of using/fitting velux in my old workshop however I don't think I can use velux here. There is a purlin in the way that would prevent me fitting the swinging part of...

    Architect or structural engineer?

Afternoon folks I'm going to be helping my father reroof his garage from 1960's concrete interlocking tiles to plain clay tiles. The current roof isn't pitched enough for the plain tiles so its going to be reframed steeper. This will also get rid of the bits with rot and old woodworm as well...
