• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    A question for the electricians

I like the idea of solar energy but I'm having issues seeing the true cost effectiveness of such systems. Cost/life span/return for such systems - along with the type/size of battery storage. At my age (75) I wouldn't benefit from such an outlay. Even with the 'plug and play' panels...

Not sure I introduced myself before

I understood you were referring to the other place... hence the 'wouldn't be allowed here'... 😉 Sorry to hear about your dad... you have my best wishes there 🙏. I think you may have got me mixed up with someone else on the loft insulation 🤔... I had a small bit to do in my workshop but used...

    A question for the electricians

I had that in my Google notification list and came across the press release: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-to-make-plug-in-solar-available-within-months

Not sure I introduced myself before

Not likely to be allowed to happen over here Shafiq - the 'political/violence stuff 😊... There's a few here you'll recognise 👍

Not sure I introduced myself before

Welcome... I'm thinking I know you from 'the other place' under another name linked to bicycles 😎 ... Welcome 👍 😊

And so a new week begins...

I've had a few trying moments @Steve so you have my sympathies on what you've had over the years - horrendous experiences to have to go through. This one was, I'm believing, some mindless individual as a passenger in another's car, window down, having had a few drinks (and whatever else) on...

    Conversion - bathroom to en-suite

Please keep posting your updates of the work you're finding you have to do @RogerS 🙏. When you're under pressure to get these jobs done it's easy to 'not see the wood for the trees' k8nd of thing - easy for others to point out a different way or route that they'd have taken... When your under...

And so a new week begins...

I was far more angry than sickened. My thoughts are that the idiots where driving up to go to McDonald's after a few beers (and such) and threw the bottle as they approached the cars - smashing my rear window. It's recycling day today... glass, plastic, cardboard/paper stuff. I can't even see...

And so a new week begins...

We get the odd occurrence of something now and then BUT times are changing and there's very little respect for anyone else's property these days. No chance of catching these booked up/drug assisted (most likely) idiots driving along at speed along one of the main roads in and out of the town.

And so a new week begins...

Nah! Ive bagged it for them but... "short on resources" - but if *I* want to ask the neighbours if they've CCT footage... has to meet certain criteria though 🤔 🤣😎. Finished clearing away the remaining fragments and vacuuming it out of the back - and front of the inside of the car - and making...

    Chisels

What works for one doesn't necessarily work for another when it comes to sharpening chisels or plane blades. I've read a few posts *elsewhere* and don't participate over there in any such costs. As this forum is a much different one to elsewhere I'll just put forward a suggestion to @kevcad to...

And so a new week begins...

Wife had a dentist appointment this morning so walked up to my car as son's was parked outside the house. Some little so and so - having had a few too many I'm assuming - did this... Reported to the police for a crime (incident!) number and then spent about an hour trying to get help from...

    Chisels

I hate to have to admit that I've also far too many (old) chisels dating back to 1965... And also to admit the reason for: tools packed away in a place unable to reach behind other "stuff" so buying 'new'... This hasn't only applied to wood chisels as I've 4 4" bolster chisels... 🤷 A recent set...

Horrible job to do, any tips very welcome.

Shame about the ply not cut as it should have been for you. Some sort of *nincompoop* to get it out of size by 2"... Bet the management aren't happy with the lost trade - due to incompetence. Would you be able to hire a plunge saw and rails to do the cutting yourselves Ian? Just wondering if...

    Wheelie Bin Store

Excellent Kev 👍. Glad to see you've worked out the trench cut facility. Which Evolution mitre-saw do you have? I've the R210 SMS... 'nice' little saw - but such a mess even with any extraction hose connected to it.

Thanks Stephen (@spb ) for the full explanation on the use of - or not - of dado stacks be it in the workplace or in a home/diy environment. I can't say I've seen many advertised in the UK... or seen mention of their use over here in the UK - only in the USA videos on YouTube. There's reason...

    Wheelie Bin Store

You never know these days... 😎😉 I wouldn’t want to try a set myself. The weight of the 6mm flat blade is enough when compared to a standard blade. I'd need to check what the weight difference could be... Just out of curiosity you understand 😎
