• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

A 'Past Project' from 33~34 ish years ago...

Just before my daughter's fourth fifth birthday (so SWMBO informs me - 1994!) she became interested in the Dolls House shop we had in Frome at that time... Based on Catherine Hill... quite steep and one of the attractions of Frome. The shop, sadly, moved to Warminster a few years later... run by...

    'Bout time I thought...

Courtesy of my son from when he accompanied us on days out with the Hawks... Updated my 'avatar' to match my forum moniker. A photo of my (past) female Goshawk from my days in Falconry; 'Accipiter gentilis'.

How to get the most out of these...?

As mentioned in a couple of other threads, I've been cleaning up some yew boards I've had for many years. Decided to remove the waney edges and plane the faces. There's three boards in particular that surprised me with the figure of the grain. They're planed, both faces, ex 2½" thickness...

Yew... your thoughts before possibility of offering for sale?

I'm somewhat reticent in asking but hopefully it's acceptable to do so before opening a post in the Forum sale forum? If not then I'd appreciate some guidance on the correct approach from a member of the Forum admins please. I'm sorting through the stock of English yew I've had for more than 35...

    Resawing thick timbers...

On a table saw... Safest way? I've dug out some timbers I got 35+ years ago for turning falconry blocks... They're 5" to 6" square by about 3ft long. I no longer see myself using these for the intended purpose all those years ago so I'm considering cutting them into 'planks' for, possibly...

And so a new week begins...

Wife had a dentist appointment this morning so walked up to my car as son's was parked outside the house. Some little so and so - having had a few too many I'm assuming - did this... Reported to the police for a crime (incident!) number and then spent about an hour trying to get help from...

    Nothing spectacular but...

Useful 😎 Over the years I've accumulated quite a bit of offcuts of different lengths and widths etc., of timbers and melamine faced chipboard - never mind the yew t&t boards and some PAL English oak. Gradually been making a hole in it with the units for my workshop - a post I keep meaning to...

Uses 'electrickery' so... Cross line laser unit

EDIT, 11TH MARCH 2026: CORRECT PRICE IN STORES IS £24.99. I've noidea as to why it was £19.99 in my store. NOTHING showed it had been reduced or was being offered at a £5 reduction. Wasn't sure which suited this best but, as this section mentions 'electrickery' and this uses batteries... 😎...

In administration: Miles Tool & Machinery, Yeovil.

Miles Tool & Machinery entered administration February 23 due to cashflow issues I've not seen any mention of this on the forum but more bad news for lost jobs etc. Miles Tool & Machinery Centre Limited, a long-established family-run business based in Yeovil, Somerset, entered administration...

WIP - Old door made usable 🤞

Probably around 1990 I bought a half glazed door from the local B&Q - closed a couple of years later. The door had a damaged edge to one of the stiles so I got it for a good price. Thing is, it was 27" wide and I'd not realised we didn't have a doorway it would fit. Idea was to fit additional...

Elu MOF 96 - WIP... Repair? YES!

Back around 1989~90 (?) I got an Elu MOF 96 router... used, intermittently, on a Trend Router Lathe until around 2008~11... In 2021 I had a need to use it during making a rocking chair for my daughter before she gave birth to our grandson. Part way through using it it started to smoke and make...

    Bandsaw 'fettling'...

I had an issue with my (cheap) Aldi/Ferrex 10" bandsaw with the tension bolt slipping with a damaged thread. Replaced the bolt - thought that was the problem. 2nd bolt also stopped thread so I re tapped the thread on the holder. Re-set the saw up but now have a slight deviation of the cut at...

    What have you "lost" today...?

That meant you had to almost turn the workspace over for to find it. Me...? This little "bar steward"... Where did I eventually find it? On the shelf under my mitre-saw fliptop workbench... Whats it for... My little Parkside grinder... changing the disc over and it slipped away...

Replacement batten LED light/s - what Watt?

Hoping this is the correct area to put this... Due to my own stupidity today I'm needing to replace one of my workshop batten 5ft LED lights. I thought "should be easy enough... get another of the same: LAP BF3-1L15NC [1079V] 220-240V~50Hz, 30W (LED) ta=50°C. IP65 21W23"... 🤔 Seems not...

    Daily Digest?

Does the Forum have such a setting to activate so that a list/links to the previous days posts are sent to members that set this in their settings? Ive scrolled through the list of posts in this section, back to 2021, and see no mention for it as a "feature" request. I couldn't locate it in the...

    1st intro 'disappeared...? 2nd attempt...

Not sure why my first introduction post disappeared 🤔 from the list but trying again... Saw a mention of this forum elsewhere, paid a visit, liked the rules so put in to join. I'm now in my 70's but had an interest in woodworking from when being fortunate to be given the lessons at school...

As requested: an introduction from a new member

Hello all I saw a great mention of the forum in another place so popped over out of curiosity... it certainly seems a busy place to be 😊 I'm retired - but not getting much free time as I expected to... family seem to take for granted *my* free time to allocate to them, 'though with a 4yr old...
