• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Vinyl not so wrapped...

I'm still here :) I've been away on a long cruise holiday to miss the cold weather. It nearly worked. 30 ish years ago I was working all hours and wasn't into woodworking anyway and the bedroom needed furniture. We had a local firm install wardrobes and fitted drawer units etc. and they did a...

So the landline rings and I answer it. caller asks for Mrs. Says they are some company in USA buying shares for a hostile take over of national grid. Our landline only gets scammers calling so we are wondering where this one is going. guy sounded american not indian. The british gas sell off...

    Chicken sausages...

I've been making pork sausages for a few years now. Concentrating on getting the fat content low while still succulent so they are guilt free. It does take quite a while though butchering the pork shoulder into lean pieces. So about a year ago I saw skinless and boneless chicken thighs in...

    Ali Express - user guide?

Until 3 weeks ago I'd never bought from AliEx. Any users here? I have an Intel NUC PC that is my media server and runs 24/7. The fan started to get a bit noisy with a bit of a whine. I thought it would last a while but looked at replacements - £34 from Amazon or £10 + delivery from AliEx. I...

    Strange email from Amazon seller

Or at least it appears to be from an Amazon seller. senders address is @gmail which makes me suspicious. I bought a cheap (£60) action camera with waterproof case based on reviews on and off of Amazon. Turned out it was as bad as I expected. I returned it and left a review on Amazon. Here's...

    Barclaycard..

So at the start of the month they emailed and text messaged me that they were going to replace my not very old card with a new one for some undisclosed security reason. message also said don't worry there has been no fraud. We have had one maybe 2 mail deliveries so far this month. Normally...

    Table for Ooni Pizza oven...

There has been a lot of fine woodworking on here recently. Thought it time to lower the bar and post something crudely made. Back in the summer I worked out that I'd like the oven on a 1050mm high table by putting it on trestles. No WIP pictures but here is the finished item though I may yet...

    Stand for Ooni oven..

I'm currently using the ooni on a camping table. After use it gets packed away and the Ooni goes on a shelf in the shed. That works OK for me. What's no so OK is the height from the ground when I'm using the oven. It needs to be higher. I also need it to pack away flat after use. I had a play...

    Not another pizza thread...

Apologies to those bored with pizza stories but i took some pictures last time I made some and set my pizza on fire due to messing about with the phone - so I'm going to post them! I now use those black sheets for BBQ grills to make pizza handling easy. this is how it goes... dough balls are...

    Dentists...

Just back from an extraction of a lower molar. Knew it wouldn't be fun but.. Won't bore you with the details but i worked up quite a sweat as he struggled to get the pieces of root out. Waiting for the anaesthetic to wear off now. Only £235 for that hour of fun. Check up and extraction 85 +...

I bought an Ooni karu 12 pizza oven

£239 black friday deal. A lot of money for a tin box and a ceramic tile but you can't take it with you. Have to say as an ex sheet metalworker that worked with stainless quite regularly it is well made. A lot of money must have gone into the tooling for the pressed parts. Arrived in 2 days...

    Studio traps

Yes i had no idea what they were either. Our close friends son is a music producer and recently moved to a house with a garden room. he wants that as a home studio. To that end sorting out the acoustics is important apparently. He got a quote for pre made 'traps' and it was eye watering. He...

How to draw a reducing elbow? Done and 3D printed!

I bought a 3D printer. no real plan for what I was going to use it for but I thought I might learn something. Turns out its not that difficult to draw things and make them. My initial idea was a 100mm to 68mm dust extraction reducer. Simple enough but the way I have things laid out it would be...

    Rain rain go away

Just had a first. It just rained so heavy and for long enough to overwhelm the local drains. We were watching water rise to just below door threshold at the back of the house and step level at the front. For normal heavy rain we never have a problem and we are well above any flood risk. This...

    £65 for 4 seconds

Don't you just love money grabbing local councils. I followed traffic through a local box junction and the car in front of me stopped to let a bus out. he stopped well short of the bus and left me with my rear wheels just in the box junction... for 3 to 4 seconds. I know this from the video...

    Hydroponics - Anyone tried it?

Following last years greenhouse tomatoes doing pretty badly i decided to try something different for this season - hydroponics. You add nutrient to water and your plants grow in the water. sounds easy. I had the idea at the end of the growing season but thought I'd get some stuff to play with...

    Toybox

No work in progress pictures. Just something I was told I had to do before I was allowed to get back to making my garden table. Here it is on its back so I could paint on the front what it is for. Needs a second coat. Right way up. it is virtually a full sheet of 18mm MDF. 1220 wide 500 deep...

    Bit of emergency plumbing...

The central heating pump had been getting a bit noisy so time for a simple swap out. Screwfix had sent me a voucher so I already had the new pump ready - Grundfos UPS3. Early last week Mrs was out for half a day so good time to get it done. Strip the boiler cupboard out and attempt to turn off...
