Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

It is the timber rather than the turner. Always hard to know how a ¾” blank will turn out. The rosewood is crying out for decoration but I did not have time to do my usual knot. The sapwood visible on the yew blank turned away but the grain holds its own.

Was that some of the wood I sent you Andy? I can't remember. If so the rosewood came from a factory making cutlery handles, not sure what it is but dark and with a purple tinge. I got around 100 1 1/2" blanks over 40 years ago and still have a few.
What I sometimes do if I desperately want to keep figure or sapwood near an edge is drill the blank off centre. A bit of a risk but easy enough to do on the lathe with a bit of practice.
I haven't made a pen for yonks, must get my backside in gear again.

Yes Bob all of those were from yours. The rosewood I found hard to finish as it has a lot of pores. Hadn’t thought of drilling off centre before; thanks for the tip.
I’m sure you could find a ready outlet for any pens you made Rob as per those secret hinge boxes.
