I suspect the punchline is in "something".

I think the something is a sawmill but it does not come over as a side-splitter (could be a log splitter?)

It is more than likely that the joke will be lost in translation, but I’ll have a go anyway.

la Scierie is a sawmill which is of course is where the police strongly suspect all those friends with tree related surnames will be departing for.

Scierie is pronounced the same as Syrie which is french for Syria.

I hope it was worth it, or should I get my coat?
