• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

A narrow escape

At least this miserable apology for a 'summer' (autumn?) has one plus side.

I was in the workshop standing at the bench and vaguely aware of something slowly crawling up my leg underneath my jeans. I automatically felt for it, a small hard lump which promptly stung me. I retaliated and whipped off my jeans but couldn't see what I suspected was a dozy wasp that, due to the cold and lack of food, had been very slowly flying around the workshop for a few days and, as we shall see, luckily for me on its last legs.

I searched reasonable hard for it but just could not see it. Quick bit of the ammonia stick has minimised the reaction.

So far..so good.

An hour later I returned to the workshop and absent mindedly picked up a handful of chocolate raisins that were spilled on my bench top and stuffed them in my mouth. I was vaguely aware hat the texture of one of them seemed a bit wiry, seemed to be mobile. A slight nip on the tongue. I spat it out into my hand...yup, that fucking wasp. Bloody good job it was on its last legs.

Ouch - Once bitten twice shy? [emoji3]

Haven't seen many wasps around here so far this year.
A few years back some nested in the roof space above my shop and I had to resort to foam filling to isolate them.
Hairy times when their access hole(s) became more and more restricted and they realised I was the culprit. Armed with a can of wasp killer spray and the foam I eventually won but the shop was full of hundreds of dead wasps. Still come across them (dead bodies) in odd corners even now.

Aaaragh....I'm infested. Or rather the workshop is. Discovered this morning loads of the blighters crawling on work surfaces and traced it down to a nest outside. So paranoid about putting my hand down anywhere. Jeans firmly tucked inside socks.

Deep clean time.

Oh dear, not good. I remember being stung on the back of my leg as a child, affected the muscle, made walking home a slow one.
Had one drop on the back of my neck while sitting in a class on my HNC, it had come in though the skylight above me, got into trouble for disrupting the class when stung me. [emoji219]

when I've got some time spare I'll relay the most embarrassing story of my life which was wasp related. But just in from hospital, youngest had more surgery today and more on Thursday...not in the mood right now. It's a cracking story mind!
