• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Expecting a delivery today of some bits and pieces for a project I was looking forward to getting on with over the weekend. Got a text message at 11:00am "APC will deliver your order between 11:22 and 13:22 today". Just time, I thought, to go out to the workshop and clear some space.

Came back in at 11:15 to find a "Sorry we missed you" note through the front door. The air went so blue even the cat blushed. Do they use a Stealth Fighter to make their deliveries????? Of course it's a bank holiday on Monday so now I have to wait until Tuesday. Not amused.

So very annoying!!

Is the depot nearby? Call them and go and collect it perhaps…? I've done that many times when I really wanted something, but the depot isn't too far from me.

Cheers
Mark

Thanks a shame Terry and the very reason why I prefer to have as much as possible delivered to our local post office. Sometimes it even gets there a day earlier than a home delivery and I have to go to the village every day for bread so no hassle.
What's in the box? What's can we look forward to seeing as a result of what's in the box?

A 150mm x 40mm aluminium oxide grinding wheel and some attachments for a Sorby Deluxe Universal Sharpening System that I picked up half price in a sale at my woodturning club. I have a second bench grinder sitting under a bench doing nothing and I am going to press it into service alongside my existing grinder/sharpening system.

I've split the fingernail profiler away from the table on the Sorby system and made a simple jig for it so I can set them up permanently on different wheels. That way, alongside my existing grinder, I'll have four wheels/tables/jigs set up permanently and I can have all the angles covered (literally!) and won't need to re-set things up between bowl gouges, spindle gouges, rouging gouges/scrapers and skew chisels.

Re-setting angles for different tools mid-project when all you want to do is turn is a distraction. My philosophy is, the simpler and more convenient and immediate I can make sharpening, the more I'll do it and the less sanding I'll have to do. That's the theory anyway...

I always, always, always stick a Post-It note on the front door, which readeth ''At home or in workshop at rear''. Thus far, I've never missed a delivery from anyone...even Yodel :D - Rob

I bought one of those door bells with remote plug in receivers, I have one in the shop for when I'm home alone in the workshop, there's even a battery powered receiver that the LOML takes in the garden, works a treat.

It's such a ball ache for them to get to us that they move Heaven and Earth making sure they've looked high and low for us. They just don't want a repeat trip

The eagle has landed.... finally.

Thanks for all the suggestions, feedback and empathy. I actually do have a laminated sign "I'm In The Garage" which I usually pin to the front door exactly for this. In this instance I was only in there for five minutes and was back indoors ten minutes before the start of the delivery window. Ah well, nobody died. My five day itch is finally scratched.
