• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

You know the gut feeling you get when you start something and the wood doesn't behave, experience shouts "leave the damn thing alone or you're going tor regret it". This lump of walnut burr ( I think that's what it is), screamed at me from the start and should have been consigned to the lathe instead but dogmatic persistence got the better of me.

I thought it was a reasonable finish until I applied a polish which shows the scratches and imperfections so enough for now the bloody thing can sit until I'm motivated enough to strip off the finish and do some more sanding, lesson learned, stick to more predictable material in future maybe.

The missus loves it as it is, she needs an appointment at Specsavers. :eusa-doh:

The frog carving is about 110mm long and 95% carved using my set of Pfeil palm gouges.

I like that :)

I look at something like that and the engineer in me thinks I should be able to do similar. Unfortunately I know the artist in me is absent and any attempt would end up completely ill-proportioned.

I admire your art skills :)
