• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Another pet gone...

Just to round off a completely sh*tty 9 months in terms of pets, i said another tearful goodbye this afternoon to my faithful puss, Maisie.

Born illegitimately to her pedigree Maine Coon mother, Belle, and some local ne'er do well Tom, before we managed to have her speyed!

Born in our kitchen nearly 19 years ago, Star Wars day 2008 to be specific (May the 4th) I have had her purring on my lap almost every day since the day she was born until last night, after finding out she had awful intestinal cancer, and I had her on my lap for the whole evening, for the final time.

At 3pm today I took her in to say goodbye and held her right to the end, and I have no shame in saying I cried as much as I did when my own mum died!

She's waiting in the workshop now until I can bury her in the garden later. Goodbye Maisie, you were a cantankerous old witch at time as you got old, and started toiletting in the utility room in the past few months (tiled floors so apart from the annoyance of having to clean up, no harm done), but hells teeth I wouldn't change a single minute of your time with us!

No more cats now, two puppies is enough to train, and to become attached to, for now.

Really sorry to hear that Mark - you really have had a rough year of it. I was a complete mess when we took Bramble in for her final vet visit and I'm dreading the day we do the same for Treacle.

They bring so much joy into our lives that there's nothing to regret but that doesn't make it easy when the day comes. My thoughts are with you.

There's no shame in crying when you loose a good friend. And that's what pets are. They will be there for you no matter what. Often times they are much better friends than people will ever be. Even some you thought you knew well, I am sad to say.

Think back on all the good memories you made together. And know you did everything to give her the best life she could get. She will look down from above with a smile and a purr.

Feel your hurt and pain Mark. So sorry to hear of this. I/we have said goodbye to many such family members over the years... My last one was 11 years ago, Otis, a Hungarian Wirehaired Visla. I cried like a baby - and still get wet eyes when I remember him.

Our next is probably q 16 year old cat, Delilah, then either/both Bertie and Brodie, Border Terriers, 11 years old... and a black longhair cat - the youngest at 5...No more after that. I'm, for one, getting too long in the tooth for any more...

You're in my/our thoughts 😟🙏

Sorry to hear that Mark
There's nothing anyone can say to help. You know when you take them on it's going to happen but doesn't change anything when the day comes.

Our Labrador is nearly 12 and my wife tells her every day that she's going to live for ever. I remember the last one and this will be far worse.

This grief is so hard to bear. I have a 16 year old dog who I doubt will see the month out due to his failing heart. I could tell you a strange tale about a 17 year old dog I lost almost a year ago….. but only if you want to hear it. Some people might find it a comfort but others might think it distasteful.

Only you can decide Gill, but we are a pretty forgiving bunch.
Feel for you Mark.

That is sad, but she had a good life with you, remember the fun she bought and smile. The pain will fade but she will not be forgotten.
