• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Any numismatists on here ?

I was sorting out stuff and nearly threw a 1953 Coronation Five Shilling Piece but thought I'd do a quick Google to see if it was worth anything. Nearly choked as the first hit valued one at over £2000 !

But further Googling showed a huge variation. So...what gives ? Chancers ?

Yes, started about 1960 (pocket money well spent)

Rog a lot depends on the quality of the coin.

Proof - highly polished blanks with no marks including fingers! Collectable, good price.
UNC Uncirculated - not as good as Proof, but collectable
Then is goes down into, wear on the surface:
F - fine
VF - very fine

It could also have a minting defect which adds to the value, like an overstrike.

Have a surf on coin grading.

The first one could be a proof coin.
The odd one is GBP2.99 Buy 3 get one free.
It could be a reproduction and the Royal Mint could give more information.

I will see what I have in Brit coins.

{Edit added}

What also determines the price is quantity minted.
My 1959 crown only 6,139 minted which then makes it a RRR rare and a collectable!
The 1931 silver 3d, only 128 minted which makes it RRRRRRRR

My UK crowns are 1895 Victoria, 1965 Churchill and 1977 ER2

Wel if it’s anything like an early Barbie doll I came across the other day it’s true value was $20 and the chancers wanted $15,000.
BUT I hope in your case you can make a killing on it lol.

Thanks Phil. It's been in its case since purchase then.

I was given two silver thruppeny bits when I was born. They are inside a pottery piggy bank I really should get them out.

Don't get too excited Roger they're pretty common.

These are in perfect condition and I have a box full more of them all in plastic wallets, certainly not worth a fortune imo. I have a collectors wallet of various british coins and a jar with probably a hundred and fifty old pennies, must sort through them!IMG_3119.JPG
