• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Any suggestions, chaps?

It is very strange how our bodies gang up against us despite everything we do in trying to keep it healthy. Two days ago my stomach decided that it didn't want any food, if I could describe the sensation I'd have said an 'acid' stomach...hardly slept all night as no antacids in the house. Peppermint tea did the trick (thank God for the web) but now I have no appetite whatsoever and not eaten for two days.

The thought of even a pint of beer doesn't fill me with my usual delight. If one were in front of me then I'd not wish to drink it. My olfactory organs have also been affected as LOML cooked hamburger and chips last night for her supper and the smell of the chips made me retch. Very strange. Still, an easy way to lose weight.

Googling has failed me with any sort of explanation and so thought I'd put the 'problem' to the wider audience.

Morning Roger

Sorry to hear that you are not well.

We can survive for weeks without food, as long as we get enough water.

My advice would be to drink plenty of clear fluid and have a word with your G.P.

Cheers

Dave

Dunno, but if it lasts for another 48hrs please go and see your GP. If it usually takes a week to get an appointment then make one now - you can always cancel it if symptoms disappear and you feel OK again. Don't want to take a punt on a diagnosis as I am not medically qualified, but serious symptoms of sudden onset could be something or nothing - better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks chaps...I'll wait and see. I'll continue to apply the 'beer' test.

Usually same day or next day :eusa-clap:

It could be all manner of things including an ulcer but if I was suffering from an acid stomach I would have tried a course of Ranitadine (Zantac) 150mg/day (most supermarkets sell it).
But after this length of time get to your GP.

Wot all the others have said! We do a lot of traveling to non-western destinations (Ethiopia, India, Nepal, Cambodia. Laos, Vietnam, Sri Lanka etc) and we always take some plain ginger biscuits. They are real tummy settlers if you're feeling a bit "out of sorts" but not actually sick.

While you're waiting to see your doctor, get some exercise. Or smoke some weed. Honest. The latter helped my mom when she was dying of cancer and the chemo killed her appetite. (Actually, she ate it in brownies, but it worked for her.)

The former helps me, but I've never had to skip more than a couple of meals. I've never tried marijuana myself.

If I felt like like that over a good pint, I'd be off to the docs immediately! :|

I think you should make sure the contents of your workshop will be well looked after just in case of a prolonged absence. You don't want to add rusty nuts to your problems do you?

I will be in the UK later in the week with plenty of room in the car :D

Get well soon.

'Rusty nuts'? Well, after 30 years of marriage guess it comes to us all, sooner or later :(

Thought I'd better close off on this.

The Doc had a good rummage around in my guts but couldn't feel or hear anything untoward. Thought it might be too much acid (same conclusion as I'd got to) so suggested a two week course of 40mg omeprazole. If it got better after two weeks then great. If it was getting better then carry on for the whole pack (ie 28 days). If no improvement after two weeks then go back to him.

Well, TBH, my gut feel (no pun intended) the next day was my stomach was starting to sort itself out but I did take a tablet. After a week, all seems back to normal apart from an aversion to crisps (no bad thing) and greasy food. So I've stopped the tablets as I'd prefer my body not to get dependent on them.

I know the food trigger that seems to set it off and so I can avoid that. I count myself very lucky when I hear about patients like Bob's wife.

[While he was listening to my guts, I was reminded of the time I went to see a German lady therapist who had developed Biodynamic Massage. Her premise was that as the body is massaged and the right things are being done and the body is getting into a relaxed state that the intestines and stomach start to burble away and make rumbling noises. This is true...at least for me on some occasions. So she had adapted a stethoscope with a very very long lead between the metal sensor and the earpieces so that she could walk around the massage table listening to ones guts as she carried out the massage. Well, something didn't click as my guts were as silent as the grave and I can hear her speaking now. After 20 minutes or so, and in a very heavily German-accented English voice said 'Vie is your stomach not talking to me ?'.]
