I've been looking at import duties involved in buying something in USA secondhand and importing into UK.
Seem the import duty itself is not too bad at a few % depending on the item but this and 20% is applied to the total price of the item, shipping and insurance.
This set me thinking about a friend who is due to sell up in the US and bring his worldly goods back to UK.
Will he have to pay this punitive tax rate on all his possessions? I think he is a UK national (originally) but might have been in the US for many years if that makes a difference?
Anyone been through this and know the score?
Bob
