• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Has anyone tried the new style of Fastfix sockets yet? I think they are absolutely brilliant. The above version is from MK Honeywell and is about a fiver or a bit less if you have a trade account. Almost foolproof cooour coded lever snap terminations in 4mm and 2.5mm cable of different types (stranded, solid) with three connectors for L,N and CPC. Very tight and secure connections. Almost impossible to do a loose connection with these.

I am hoping Hager will bring out a stainless steel faced version soon.

It had to come. My electrician is using those lever-fix things in junction boxes, mainly because of the time saving, but also because of juggling one less thing as he is trying to do his work.

They’ve had these for many years on central heating pumps I guess it was only a matter of time

yes they are like the Wago blocks which are brilliant, used them a lot. Way way better than annoying screw fixing in sockets.

I really like the Wago 221 connectors. Not so much the ones you just push in. Not that keen on the Wago junction boxes as they always seem a bit tight on the T&E outer sheathing. Still use them though.

Currently rigging up a load of spotlights (when I say currently this is virtual, as I am still confined to bed) and trying the blue Click two piece lighting connectors, as it is easy to unsnap a light fitting from the circuit for testing and all the fitting connections can be made off before the light is offered up.

My limited experience of push-in connectors has been the difficulty in releasing the cable if the socket has to be moved. I’ve no idea what brand they were, probably just off the shelf from a local shed.

fantastic, I'll be able to save myself 27 seconds per socket, I'm not sure what I'll do with all the time I'm going to save, but I'll ask my wife if she has any recommendations that only take about 30 seconds.

I don't think that's the point for DIYers. Trades on a full rewire may save some time, and time is much more expensive than the differential cost of components, but the real benefit is in terminations that are more reliable and better suited to AFDD devices in circuit.

Andy - these are the lever type connectors: you just lift the lever and the wire comes straight out. The push type with no lever are more fiddly and I'm not keen on them.
