• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. After having a mate round today to do some woodwork for him, he helped me get my SIP 14" BS from the garage up to the workshop at long last.

So, I started cleaning it out and getting ready to set it up when one of the lower bearings wouldn't turn.

The lower bearings say 608Z, the upper ones 608ZZ, (or maybe 6082Z).

Is there any significant difference, and where do you recommend to buy replacements?
 
Z relates to the bearing having metal seals. one Z = 1 seal ZZ or 2Z means two seals.

Neither are the best to use.
Similar code R for rubber. use RR or 2R bearings. Cheap as chips on ebay. In this application you don't need any quality so get the cheapest you can. I buy the packs of 10 for a few quid. 608 is about the commonest small bearing around.

Oh yes. They got away with all sorts of things as the controllers did not understand what they were doing!
 
I wouldn’t overly worry about the seals. Many bandsaws (like yours) were fitted with metal shielded bearings because they work just fine. I custom made new guides for my Record Power BS and I used shielded bearings because that’s what I had in the cupboard. That was several years back and the bearings are still working fine.
