• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Best Christmas

OK, GOG (grumpy old git) getting into the spirit (well, sort of).

I remember always enjoying Christmas as kid. Always the same 12 of us, our family of four, my aunt and uncle plus two cousins and a pair of grandparents. The adults would take it turns to host. My favourite was staying down at my aunt and uncles as they had a really long garden with a bit of wilderness at the end where I'd like to explore. Always a traditional Christmas Day lunch..always the traditional Christmas Day panic especially when, on the morning, one year they'd forgotten to take the turkey out of the freezer. We'd play games in the afternoon..anyone remember that one with little letter boxes and you were given slips of paper with towns on IIRC and you had to post them in the right box ? Then in the evening playing cards....Pa, Ma, Baby or Pram was one. Oh and I nearly forgot...waking up in the early morning, feeling a slight weight at the bottom of the bed, paper rustling as you moved it around....the Christmas Stocking ! Sugar mouse, chocolate coins, a tangerine, a sixpence....sliding your bare arm all the way down that stocking to see what other goodies were down there.

As an adult my most memorable one was when we went cross-country skiing in Norway and every day seeing this. Magical.

But now...soon be over and we can get back to normal ....yippee ?

Have to agree Roger with GOG bit.
Sitting here just putting off diving into the loft to bring down boxes of carp that SWMBO insists on distributing round the house. Trouble is as she becomes less able, it is me that has to put the stuff up.
I do it with reasonable grace as it means a lot to her but I do like it when it all goes back into the loft once again.

Happy Humbugs!

Bob

I think it will be tomorrow that I bring down the trimmings boxes and probably string out a few lights outside - some folks in our village go mad with their displays but the kids seem to like them.

One Christmas Day I remember was I was very young, was waking up to a scene of devastation - we'd had a fire in the sitting room where all the presents, tree etc were situated. Fortunately the fire had just smouldered - the theory was somebody had dropped a cigarette in an armchair which had smouldered away and gradually through the floorboards into the void below.
Everything in that room had either melted or ruined by smoke. No presents that year apart from what was in my stocking. [emoji53]

Christmas this year has had a bit of a lift in that my Consultant has agreed that the Chemo & Radiotherapy had shrunk my tumour sufficiently that he can operate to remove it. Probably in late Jan or February. A very major op (over 2days) with lots of consequences and risks but it does offer a chance of a cure.

Rod thats great news!

Mrs Woodstalker is mad for Christmas, not so much the commercial carp but loves decorating and getting into the spirit, she had a very traditional upbringing so its done properly. As you i dutifully dig out the boxes of decorations and make sure they are available from December the first.

This year will be our daughter first Christmas in our new home and we are hosting my parents and brother complete with SIL and Niece so not much pressure. Looking forward to lunch though and it will be nice to be in our own home for once! We can set the timetable for lunch at lunchtime and everything stops for the Queen's Speech.

I genuinely enjoy giving presents more than receiving its one of those things that i am a bit OCD when it comes to stuff like tools and what not so if my wife buys me something i usually have to show her exactly what i want which does ruin the surprise but makes Christmas day less awkward!

Congratulations Rod.
That is what I call a great present for Christmas. I have a good friend who has been going through similar aggressive treatment and is now hopefully clear from breast cancer too. Best of luck for 2017 Rod!

Yes indeed, great result Rod - really happy for you and your family! 8-)

That's a lovely lovely picture Roger. I wish it could snow here for Christmas. This will be our 2nd Christmas alone - Mrs P, me and the houndies. We took a long walk through the woods last Christmas Day and it was just lovely. Snow would be double lovely this year, but there's probably no chance of that happening.

We're doing a proper traditional tea party here this afternoon. Guests will be arriving in 2 hours.

I am Bah Humbug too BTW :D

How about one saying 'Husband in Training'.

 .. sorry , all these years and I never knew

I don't have a husband

yeah .. there are loads ! .. trouble is, the day after you put one up for sale, there are a hundred other sellers selling them cheaper !

Better than any present Rod, good news.

Love the picture Rog, I really enjoy x-country skiing not going this winter due to last winters problems and a mega summer holiday.

Great news Rod. The Boss had a major op in July, same reason as you; good luck mate, from both of us here.

S'pose we'd better put some decorations on the tree. Have to find it first :)

That's good news Rod, best wishes for the op.

Just to buck the trend I love this time of year, got taken out by the local merchant for a curry on the 10th, met up for a meal with mainly ex woodworking formites last Saturday & today I'm off to my old home town to meet up with my brother & some old friends.
Add to that a couple more get togethers before the big day make it a really enjoyable social time of year which is most welcome as I spend most of my working days on my own in the workshop or on site.

Have a great time whatever you do.

Roger,

What a beautiful picture. It reminds me of the only skiing trip I had where I could actually ski all the way back to the hotel. My favourite destination was Serre Chevalier in the French Alps.

Merry Christmas one and all,

Neil

I haven't stopped to think about the "actual" christmas yet !
Had to book for a blood test yesterday, and they said, not till next week .. I just said, whenever is fine :-)

Then I realised !!! .. hang on ,, it's christmas this weekend !

Bring on Jan2 when it starts to get back to normal :-)
Christmas just get's in the way of "normal" life !

I'm with you Doug, I love this time of the year and Christmas Day. Not just because of the kids but I've always enjoyed it and have not plans to stop any time soon! [emoji6]

Cheers
Mark
