• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I'll gladly take all your wasps and in return send you all our midges, clegs and flies.

You'll never have your picnic spoilt again. Never have that BBQ ruined. Can't say fairer than that. :twisted:

Tried it. Fail. In any case, clegs aren't driven by smell but use their eyes to find a meal.
 
Had to look up cleg.
I know them as horseflies. Just looked for how to stop horseflies biting... Wear a lot of clothes, oh the power of the internet :lol:
We (of course) have many, many biting insects, Autan spray is the best we have found, not perfect, but good. We have a particular small vampire fly. Possibly we should call it a piranha fly, because it literally saws a small circle of skin off and sucks your blood. It hurts straight away, and if you kill the damn thing, you smear your own blood over the surface.
Thankfully, they are quite rare, only a couple bites a season usually.

Tried that as well, Jimmy, but they still come. The only thing I've found that works is a wheelbarrow full of smouldering grass cuttings. Being in the wheelbarrow means you can easily move the smoke generator to wherever you're working.
 
Cracked it. White paper painters overalls with hood. Strim away to your hearts content.

I've got one of those as well. She's a real midge-magnet but sadly for me clegs and flies ignore her.
 
I wonder if some bird keeper could cross a budgie with a swallow. Then you would have a pet which regularly zooms out of its cage to take on any flying insect and during winter it would happily get by on millet.
