• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hi Chaps

Picked this up at Papplewick Pumping Station they are having a steaming this weekend they usualy have some tools for sale.

It had a replacement wedge made from oak by the looks of it, it was a bit damaged so I knocked up a replacement one from boxwood, the difficult thing was trying to match the colour but some stain and black permanant pen sorted it out.
A quick sharpen and its good to go.

I was hoping for a manufacturers mark but all that is stamped on is W Lombard.

It could even be user-made. The captive wedge style doesn't need a special, relatively expensive, tap and thread box, so is ideal for a one-off.
 
Hi Andy

It’s got an oval shaft with flats on each side, so I think it’s machine made, a round shaft is easy to make I use round shafts on my gauges.

Ebay timber yards wood turning suppliers lots about, not usually large sizes but it’s out there.

It's better with the naked eye Mike, not to be missed out on and as Pete says it is regularly in steam which is the best time to visit.

Go when they are steaming and do the reservoir tour it’s only £4 you get a tractor and trailer ride and underground tour.

Ironically Papplewick is only just up the road & I’ve never paid it a visit even though I work for a retired engineer who works on the boilers :eusa-doh:

Must try harder :lol:
