Brownie Points

Turning has slowed down for a week or so now as I have been gardening (removing a cherry tree mainly) and repairing a couple of benches which I have just managed to complete.

The pile of wood I was given which I spent last week cutting into the correct size and drilling holes. Then over the weekend I gave them a few coats of oil and let them dry and today assembled the two benches, I think they look pretty good and they have now earned me some extra brownie points
The wood I was given not sure what it is but suspect it could be Teak

Excellent work I rescued a similar bench from my late father in laws garden it had no wood but I know what to do now.

If it’s teak it should last many more years.
I’ve done two of ours in English Oak and now have a table to mend as it gave way on me.

Thank you, everyone. I did price up the wood for the two benches and it worked out very expensive. Then I was fortunate that the 8 pieces of this wood turned up.

If only that quantity of wood would land in my lap. People know I'm into woodwork but i only get offered holey pine and chipboard :lol:

What sort of oil did you use Derek?

I've got a similar bench to refurb for a friend and want to make a good job of it.

I don't mind if they grey a little as it will take the newness look from them, but I will still oil them for protection.

The wood was from an old school building that was pulled down and the best thing was not many nail holes in it. The oil I used was THIS

Probably not teak then, possibly iroko or meranti, but great to get hold of regardless. People only give me boards of English Walnut - Rob
