• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. Building DPC question

Upstairs between the stone cill and the inner Thermalite wall there is a DPC spanning the gap between the two.






I think it's only there to stop the snotters falling down inside the cavity and bridging between the two walls and so I'd like to cut it open so I can get some mains cables in.

What does the team think ?
 
I've been mulling this and I think that the answer is CUT it. ASAP!

My reasoning being that if the joint underneath the stone cill fails then water can enter in on top of the plastic and bridge across to the inside walls causing a damp patch.
 
Well, it might be a bit of plastic, but it isn't a DPC up there at that level. It has some sort of other reason for its existence, and until I could work out that reason, I'd be reluctant to remove it. Is it perhaps some sort of ad hoc cavity tray? Is it above a piece of steel, perhaps?

I don't think it's an ad-hoc cavity tray as the level is the same at both outer and inner leafs. My understanding is that the level of the tray at the inner leaf is supposed to be higher than that in the outer leaf.

There is a steel but the inner leaf sits on top of that.

But you make a good point with that line of enquiry as I now realise that I can't use that route because of the steels :evil:
