• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Can you see it yet?

Thought you might be happy with that. :D

Only thing is I can't get it to open in a new tab by default, but that's one for another day.

Cheers
Mark

Oh, and Bob, do you want to call it something else? I just called it that because I couldn't think of anything witty or erudite but it's a moment's work to edit it now it's there.

Just let me know.

At the moment it is 90% manuals and the rest buyers guide links. Whether is will grow into more things I'm not sure.
If we end up with several sub sections, we could go for buttons for each sub section.

Did it turn out to be difficult? if we wanted several buttons would that cause a problem in the future?

Any way Thanks for getting sorted and sorry of I seemed to nag about it at times

Bob

Nope, piece of cake because I added the code into my build document when I was rebuilding the forum so I knew where to look.

Very easy to add more, but we're limited by the amount of white space up in that top corner, but other than that easy.

If you think of a funky name just let me know. And no bother re 'nagging', I need a shove as I've so much going on my memory span is that of a mayfly 's life! :)

What on earth are you two geeks geeking about? ;)

Yes I think I can modify that slightly, I seem to remember playing with it before and making it smaller. Let me have another look and see if I can remember which file and bit of code it was…

That's hurtful Mike! I've only gone and bloody done it, after months of procrastinating, and Bob's the only one who bothered to notice it!

We women are never appreciated for our work! :eusa-whistle:

Well done :)

Shame about the new tab thing. Had to use my bookmark to get back.

Oh and I got asked to create an account or sign in which was confusing. i just closed the pop up and I could see the listings.

It doesn't show on Tapatalk so I cannot see what you are on about but I can guess?

Actually it does if I switch to Web View [emoji3]

Sorry Mark, it was past my bedtime

What's the space for between Dropbox and Advanced Search - Members Map perhaps? ;)

A simple right click and open link in new window fixes that.

Anything we want, I just wanted to leave a gap as it looked nicer than without :)

I can add one for members map too if you paste the link into here for me so I don't have to go and look for it ;)

What? You don't have it bookmarked? :D

members map

@Mark - you are getting good at this now

Any comment of the reason for white space under the main graphic. Is it usable/shrinkable?

@Andy - I think you have been taken in by Mike G's stated location being "A Hovel" and you have located him in the town of Hovel in Germany.

:D I was wondering how long it be would before someone noticed. It has been there for months. :D

The problem is I like to do a reconciliation between the names on the map and those members who have filled in a location in their details. A quick count is sufficient but as you can imagine it was throwing up an error due to false data. I couldn't believe my luck when I actually found a town called Hovel :D

I think you could pick somewhere near to and a bit north of Dave L and not be too far away Andy.

Bob
Not to the north, to the west is more inline.

I was aware that Mike and Dave are quite close ;) but I'd rather have the nod from Mike before adding somewhere closer to his real location.

How on earth did I miss this thread ?

Mind you, I still have no idea what you're talking about :D

Doh!! Blind as a bat, I am.

Well done, Mark :eusa-clap:

very nice....now if you could work some magic that makes posting pics easier.........

there's presumably no way the forum software allows direct posts ie without a 3rd party hoster?

That is correct Rob. I was looking back through your posts to find one where you had uploaded a picture without success to see who you were using as host.
One tip is that Dropbox is useless for use with forum software for photos. Files seem fine but photos drag the whole thing to a crawl which annoys all the users.

Most of us here seem to use Photobucket and that seems to work well by having two windows open when composing a message and simply pasting in the img tags. Their software could be a bit more user friendly but it interacts with PHPBB very well when topics are being read which is where it matters.

I think Flickr is also quite good but never used it. Mike G uses IMGUR I think and that is also fine from a readers perspective.

There is actually a Photobucket plugin for the forum, but I spent a good 2 evenings trying to properly integrate it as it's for a previous version and hasn't been updated. It kind of worked but was flaky and clunky.

Let me have another look at that when I get some time…

Cheers

Using Tapatalk you can post photos direct from your phone.
I also use IShack but find it easier to import my photos from there to my phone and post from it.

Rod

I use Flickr. Like all of these things, it takes a bit of getting used to and just when you have, they go and change it all.

I've got a dropbox account but I only use that to send enormous files to a mate in the States, we treat it like an ftp server essentially. I use photobucket for pics here but to be honest I hate the dam thing. The time it takes to upload photos drives me insane. Posting them here is actually the easy part, it's the terminal wait to get past all it's pop up rubbish and advertorial that drives me insane. Plus it's also very slow to perform any transaction (moving between albums and so on).

I've not tried tapatalk...any good?

Can't comment about windows but with OSX, Firefox, Adbox Plus and Tracking Blocked the upload and download times on Photobucket are acceptable.
Of course this depends on both file size and internet speeds as well.

Tapatalk is a smartphone App (and iPads etc) for accessing Forums (not just this one) - I think it's great and I now very rarely follow things on my computers.

Used to be free but not anymore I believe but well worth the money IMHO.

Rod

The only thing with Tapatalk hosting is that they are hosting your photo's, so if for some reason Tapatalk dies, or the forum stops working with it, or whatever, then your photos have gone! But in fairness the likelihood of that is slim.
