• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

For a good many years I’ve been lurking on another forum, and recently a member highlighted his wonderful restoration thread he had written on here. After taking a walk on the dark side, I was delighted to see a lot of ‘old lags’ from the other forum and realised where they had headed off to. I’m delighted to make everyone’s acquaintance again.

For those who haven’t seen any of my ‘other’ threads, I’m a retired engineer from a long line of Master joiners and cabinet makers. I tend to spend my days making man glitter rather than saw dust restoring old wood and metal working machines with a good friend who is also a retired engineer.

Hey, I remember you! Welcome, and good to see you here.

:text-welcomewave: back!
Just let’s have a bit less of the “ old” :eusa-naughty:
none of us here have grown up and we don’t intend to.

Glad you have seen the light :D
I think you will fit in nicely here and I’m looking forward to your input.

Hi Deema, a familiar name it's good to see you over here, just be careful with that "old lags" description. ;)

I recollect the name as well, so welcome from me. I wonder what we should call ourselves when we've been woodmangling for 50 or so years? - Rob

And a big welcome from me, as my old mate workmate used to say "thanks for turning up" I'm fairly new over here so not sure I qualify as "old" or a "lag" (but I am old-ish)
:obscene-drinkingcheers:

I already welcomed you Deema. But to repeat, nice to see you here. Adrian

Thanks everyone, is there a like or thank you button? Just finding my feet.

I apologise for the ‘old lags’ it’s my humour, I know old lags is slang for people who frequent prisons, it seemed ironic for those who frequent forums :eusa-whistle:

Ah, the black sheep of the family then? :D

Welcome. Such is the antiquity of my old laggishness, I think I might have cleared off before you even joined t'other place. Either that or my memory is, erm, you know, that thing... I forget. What was I saying again?

Hello and welcome Deema

Nice to have another Northerner on board, we’re far too Southern centric in our membership ;)

Whereabouts in Cheshire are you?

Welcome from me too. I look forward to chatting about hand tools and methods again.

And if you want any over-detailed, long-winded wips to read, I've posted about almost everything I've made since joining in over here... ;)

(Don't worry though, I've not been making much.)

I broke the line going back 4 or 5 generations  my father didn’t want me to be part of the family business, he felt too many in the profession die young and knacker up their bodies. He has COPD as a legacy from the industry.

@AndyT one thing I missed on the other side when you left was your fabulous WIPs and insights into tool history.

You’re adopted, not native, so you don’t get to play high and mighty! ;)

What you questioning, the ‘r’ in Northerner?

I thought the same, no ‘r’ but my phone auto corrected it so I googled and apparently ‘Northerner’ is the correct spelling… who knew!?

Welcome Deema, from a fellow AGS owner. I''m further north even than Roger, but not as far as a certain Edinburgh poster! :D

I’ve restored a number of AGS’s which are excellent saws, but at the moment my main saw is now a SCM Si15F. Out if all the saws I’ve ‘played’ with, for my needs it’s just about perfect.
