Chip extractor for ELU/DW Planners

There are a myriad of differing ways to extract from a P/T. When you ask for plans what do you mean? Are you wanting to build one yourself? Is there something special about that type of P/T?

I use a twin motor Camvac, a Cycone Central cyclone and a 200l drop box. 100mm plastic waste pipe for the fixed run and 100mm flexi holes to the machines via 3 blast gates. Apart from the remote control (soon to be resolved) it works well for me.

The Camvac is noisy but the exhaust ports can be ported outside. Mine is situated outside the workshop so I have not done so.

I'm mystified by the linkage of this question to a particular machine.

Any decent chip extractor, idealy HVLP on a large hose will cope with most P/T waste.

Is the OP really asking about a collection chute to retrofit to his machine perhaps.

Some clarification might yield more useful responses.

To illuminate my request. My shack is fitted out with 4 blast gates on a 100mm ducting system into the smaller of the Axminster cyclone extractor which is more than adequate for all my present needs.
While it is now very accurate machine, it doesn't half make a mess, that might be better feeding straight into the ducting. I would have liked to build a retrofit chute system for my some 40 year old planer.
The main query is while in thicknessing mode could I leave the in and out tables flat or do I have to elevate them and design a chute around that. I am not sure if there is sufficient gap between the knife block and the tables for chips to escape.
I have studied the manuals for various P/T's. I am left with the feeling it may be to dangerous a project. Being in my late 70's I don't need a planer exploding in the work shop.

With regards to pictures I was trained by andyP a while back, but alas I have forgotten and need re-training.

Looking at photos of the DW1151, the design is a fairly generic one and I had, for a while, a Charnwood and I never bothered about having the infeed/outfeed tables at different heights. The chips cleared perfectly.

The key thing is making a box that covers the blades and can be fixed securely. I know that on the Charnwood there was also an interlock and don't know if the DW1151 has one as well.

There were re-badged versions of this all over the world. Unfortunately when in the thickness mode both in & out tables are hinged vertically so there is no superstructure to mount any thing too. Its fine in the planner mode, but even that is not very efficient. It looks as though I may have to ask my 2 children to buy me a new machine for them to inherit.

Hello Richard,

I had one of those for years and found it to be a very good machine, from memory when you open up both tables there is a black metal cover that hinges across the cutter block, then you clip a black plastic chute onto that so that the 100mm pipe can be pushed on - do you have both of those parts?

Now theres a thing. A black plastic chute, I have never seen or know what it looks like. Yes thats right having the black metal cover with 2 clips lock over the cutting block, the plastic chute is the answer.
Do you have a picture, a part number or any info on this contraption?
I bought my Elu new from a company in Harlow 40 years ago, I cant remember any extraction device, mind you in those days you just got the broom out when passage through the chips was impossible.

That design (lifting tables) is most unusual for a machine at this price-point. Most designs have the tables fixed.

That makes sense as the plastic part chutes the waste into your extractor pipe.

I just found it on Rogers parts diagram, it is on page 21 - part number DA 831.

I did have one somewhere so will try and find it.

Re my last entry
No joy at any stockists in the US, EU or here, enquiries all point to the item DA 831, DW601/3 and 863664-01 being 3 separate pt numbers for the same thing, stopped production some 30 years ago.
Hence no stock.

Well it was worth a try, many thanks to all for input.

As I said in my PM I got so fed up ringing around the world all day looking for the part I just thanked all and left the blog not expecting to find one in the next county. Getting it from you should not pose any problem.
Yes please I would be grateful to get the chute, save me spending more of the kids inheritance, as I only use the P/T occasionally.
