We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I suspect like many I struggle to throw away all those little bits and pieces of timber thinking ‘that’ll come in useful one day’.

I’ve been carting all sorts of ‘stuff’ through a number of house moves and decided that a lot of this ‘stuff’ finally had to go. So I started the grand sort out only to discover that I just couldn’t do it and I had to make something instead.

Both of these have been idea’s lurking in the back of my mind for quite some time so I decided to give it a go, as much as a proof of concept as anything else.

So, I present to you a couple of scrap boxes.

The ‘harlequin’ box is all sorts from wenge, rosewood, beech, oak, sycamore and a couple I don’t know and can’t remember using at all, anywhere!

The ‘brick built’ one is strips of sapele left over from some laminating work about 15 years ago with beech infill.

Both are about a 6 mm base with all the bits glued on. No signs of any balancing issues. My wife likes the harlequin one so much it’s now her 60th birthday present tomorrow! I also went for different leather colouts in line with the overall theme.

They did take rather a long time to make as there really is a lot of rather fiddly woodworking to do.

Also, my maths is crap hence the wider borders on the brickwork one!

Both finished in shellac and teak wax.

You seem to have an oak ceiling :).

The non-brickwork one looks like a puzzle box.......and a bit of a pig to make and clean up. Well done.

Ian, - both boxes have a ‘base’ box of 6 mm (ish) timber. Oak for one and beech for the other.

Brickwork box is 2.5 mm ‘veneers’ and the harlequin one varies from 2.5 to about 8 mm. Much more work than I first thought but generally rather pleased with the end results.

Well those look good! I think I might have enough wood to make something rather similar, so I might well be pinching that idea too.
 
Those are seriously time consuming boxes, waaaay outside my attention span. :eusa-clap: :eusa-clap:
 
Now I do like those :eusa-dance: Quality work and cracking joints.
