• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Did anybody else watch the TV programme on the £15.9billion construction of Crossrail?
What an amazing feat of Civil Engineering - driving the new tunnel over the Northern Line with 350mm clearance below and 850 above, incredible?
Their system of checks on buildings and their ability to jack up tilting properties if necessary was amazingly clever.

A few years back I was working for a Company who bid for some of the work but unfortunately they didn't win the contract. It would have been a great privilege to have been involved?

Was that the last one? I had hoped to see something about the trains themselves. A school friend from 40 odd years ago is pretty high up in the procurement/specification of those and I had wondered if he would have been featured.
Just looked him up as "rolling stock and depots manager" He has been nuts on trains all through school and apprenticed to BR when he left.

I've only seen the first episode so far - my wife recorded them for me.
Probably no trains as I think it doesn't open until 2018?
At least the rolling stock contract has gone to a British Company, unlike HS1 (which I worked on) which went to Hitachi?

I saw the episode last night…gobsmacking stuff. The wooden roof at the CW station was something to behold but my fave bit was when the boring machine broke through the concrete wall at Whitechapel station - Rob
 
The Beeb are quite hot about only making their material available within the normal broadcast zone.

Although I don't know the detail, the trick is to use some sort of proxy server based in the right zone and view from there. In that way you appear to have a local IP address.

There is bound to be google info on how to do it.

TunnelBear is free, easy to use and recommended - though I haven't tried it abroad yet?
A UK proxy is one of the choices.
