• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm doing up our kitchen. I have a row of 5 wall cabinets, each of which is 400mm (any wider and the doors hit me in the face - DAMHIKI).

So the run is 2m, right?

It's 2010mm in reality. It's a combination of very slightly oversize tops and bottoms, and a slightly proud screw or two preventing them going together perfectly.

Fortunately 10mm is neither here nor there for this, but it was a surprise.

I must be more careful.

Well Steve, this kind of thing is why we didn't buy boxes. If you have a fixed run and it's only 2 metres, my view was why not just do a bespoke frame, and fit it out mostly with drawers. No need for lots of limiting dividers. No need for backs (so lots of flexibility with plumbing and electrics). We did runs 8 of metres this way. The main Island is over 6m long by 1.2m wide and has no boxes. Easy build for a woodworker like yourself.

No plinths either. Raised everything up a bit (we are both tall) so vac / mop goes under, and lighting beneath the units. Gives a very clean look.

I've been thinking about how I could have been 2mm out on each one. I'm wondering if the mfc is actually 18mm. I didn't check and it would explain it.

MFC sheet is rarely bang-on 18mm Steve.....On a project I'm currently working on using 18mm Egger board, the thickness is actually18.6mm.

I've fitted a few kitchens from a local supplier and things often seemed a bit tight.

The supplier was grateful when I pointed out that their end panels were 19mm thick but their design software and all their drawings showed them at only 18mm thick, I know it doesn't sound much but the odd extra mill here and there soon adds up.
