• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I've been on them (Rivaxaban) for a couple of months or so because of my A-fib and never thought much about it, what a fuss putting a card in my 'phone wallet etc. :rolleyes:
Last Wednesday morning I got a nosebleed, no warning and I'm not prone to them, bled like a tap and I just dismiised it but after 2 hours of trying everything to stop it I was dragged kicking and screaming by my wife to the hospital A&E walk in centre. By the time I was triaged it had just about stopped but that was well over 3 hours and a hell of a lot of blood, half of which I swallowed - YUK. Left with a dire warning to go straight to A&E if it bleeds again for more than 15 minutes.

I felt a right twit going to hospital with a nosebleed but not having previous experience of blood thinners it's opened my eyes a bit.

By coincidence I had a telephone conversation with a senior GP on Friday as he rang to go through the results of the X-rays of my knees and he advised to maintain the 20mg tablet a day for the time being just watching carefully and hope it's a one off.
I've already had the drug swapped as the first one they prescribed gave me some horrible side effects and apart from the nosebleed this one's been fine.
 
I had a look for the drug - and side effects... also dosages it comes in. Crossed my mind if a slightly lower dose would not give the nosebleed?

Sorry... I've got a bit paranoid recently (not so recently) about dosages for the mess we get prescribed for us - without the proper monitoring over time... in my case the omeprazole.

I can appreciate how that must make you feel Bob.

I saw a friend today who has been struck down with gout. After the inevitable p take about rich food and port I learned it’s not quite so straightforward. He’ll be on tablets permanently.

We were reflecting on how we were once invincible! Fingers crossed it was a one off and you remain a stranger to A&E.

As I said I'd need to be dragged kicking and screaming again. :ROFLMAO: I never saw a GP for decades now it's regular as the powers that be keep moving the goalposts and doesn't help when my wife is an ex nurse, DiL is an advanced nurse practitioner, daughter an ex intensive care nurse so they beat you down eventually.

Strange you mention gout Robert as apparently I have calcium crystals in my knee as well as the usual wear and spur bone growths. He said it's nothing to do with gout even though it's referred to as pseudogout and possibly one of the reasons the knee is so painful. I have to go down the MSK route with a first telephone appointmant next week and I'd expect very slow progress unless I look at the private option.
 
During Covid No.1 son got a blood clot in his leg and very sensibly took himself off to A&E at St. Thomas's in Londres as soon as he saw the swelling. Via WotsAp he asked if there was a history of this sort of thing in the family to which I replied that there wasn't. Once it was diagnosed, he was prescribed blood thinners which he's going to have to take for the rest of his life - Rob
 
I have A-fib too and the cardiologist prescribed Apixaban 5mg as the blood thinner. Preferred it over Aspirin. I might bleed a touch more than before and bruise a little easier too. That's it but everyone is different so what is good for me might do you in. They also had me do a sleep study and it turns out I have sleep apnea so now I have to sleep with a CPAP gizmo. Sleep apnea and A-fib can be related.

My father frequently said when you go to a doctor you will have always problems.
