• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Has anyone had one of these repaired ? This machine suits my needs but appears to have been superseded by a 2300 watt model which has been “improved” in ways that don’t suit me. It also has a warning on the net indicating that I it has a problem or two. Spares seem to be available from specialist sources but I’m not capable of diagnosing the fault.

Sorry. Brain out of gear ! It’s a 625E type. 5 About 20 years old but very lightly used
In use it suddenly made sparks and smoke
I’ve been told that spares are probably not available but they are shown on various internet sites, in many instances the parts of the 2000 and 2300 watt versions are the same.

Magic smoke would indicate armature failure, though typically it would run quite rough and be sparking blue and orange quite visibly well before the smoke starts.

I took apart a Type 7 625E a couple of years ago that I had been given on here, DeWalt had downgraded it compared to earlier models and had reduced the size of the bearings quite considerably. It had a bent armature which was a complete mystery as the machine had done very little work and was like new, a new armature was in the region of £120 and it really wasn’t worth fixing despite it being like new cosmetically.

I followed a utube video to dismantle the router and found, as predicted, the armature was scrap. The commutator segments had fallen off and caused damage to other parts. Shame because I had invested £30 in new bearings.to fit my diagnosis.
