Just back from an extraction of a lower molar. Knew it wouldn't be fun but..

Won't bore you with the details but i worked up quite a sweat as he struggled to get the pieces of root out. Waiting for the anaesthetic to wear off now. Only £235 for that hour of fun. Check up and extraction 85 + 150. If I was NHS they could see me late august. 1 week wait private.

All reminded me why I avoid dentists for years at a time.

Have to wait 3 months now for healing before deciding if I want more trauma for an implant.

The practice near us has two expensive sports cars parked there, of which one is a Ferrari. This tells you all you need to know about private dentistry.

That was quite a good price, I have just had 3 upper teeth removed and it cost a lot more than 3 times what you paid.[emoji848]

Be prepared for more wallet trauma at the very least for an implant.
i'm £2900 in so far and the job is incomplete.

I broke front gnasher off at gum level last September. my NHS dentist would not see me as an emergency case due to limited capacity during covid restrictions so I went private. Check up and extraction was done there for £185 but then I was referred to an other practice for the implant itself when the costs really hit.
the first implant failed (apparently quite rare) and had just been re- done under warranty.
However the replacement crown was already made to fit implant 1 when the failure was discovered.
I'm now on extended healing time (3 months) before discharge back to dentist no 1 when I expect he will want to get a new crown made to fit implant 2. I'm waiting to see how the warranty will work between the two dentists.
I suspect that dentist no 1 loosened implant no 1 whilst taking the impression as he had a hell of a job to release the mould from around the pin fitted into the implant.

As an aside it was noticeable when implant 2 was fitted that the dentist was asking the nurse for "allen keys" and "socket ratchet" from time to time in the process.

I also understand that if an implant is needed as a result of an accident of some sort, NHS may do an implant but if the implant is needed for "natural causes" then they won't fit one. Moral of this is if a tooth gets broken, get someone to give you a black eye and cut lip and put on a sling so you can say you fell down stairs. :lol:

I read something a while back about UK dentists. Something like 80% of root canal work is done to a poor standard. Not sure how they know this? Prices ranged from something like £175 to £950!

Maybe someone can explain something I was wondering about.
When I have work done, I have to fill in a form confirming my age .
I assume that the nhs pick up a bit of the bill.

We both went for a check up in March as we had not been for nearly three years and were concerned about both our teeth and them de registering us. Her majesty booked appointments for the hygienist at the same time, earliest they can see us is October!!

My ex wife was a dental hygienist while she was qualifying as a teacher, and did it for 4 years for a surgeon. The result of this was she was obsessive about tooth and gum care. The result of that is offspring and I:

Clean after every meal using soft brush
Floss and use interdontal brushes
Use a water spray dental cleaning machine laced with mouthwash
Use tongue and gum scraper
See hygienist twice a year (private but £72 a session).

My son (25) has never had a filling. Neither has my ex. Neither have I since she got hold of me.

I do believe that prevention is crucial. Accidents do happen and that is the only reason for dental work usually if a thorough regime is followed (illnesses excepted). I think the spray jets are fantastic: they clean the gum line very well and shift debris that even flossing does not get.

Pretty much the same here, but my dental is surgery is NHS and I've never had to pay more than the standard fee. I see the hygienist once a year and he passed on the following goodly advice; use the interdental brushes before cleaning your teeth; don't rinse your mouth after the toothpaste, either with water or mouthwash (in fact he said not to use mouthwash at all) for the simple reason that is washes all the fluoride off your teef.

I currently have a cracked molar and rather than do a root canal procedure (which the dentist is not, under any circumstances going to do) he said to spread a pea sized smear of OralB toothpaste (or similar) over the crack at the end of day before bed. The only treatment he did on the tooth was to apply a layer of varnish (MMM :lol: ) over the tooth which will be repeated in January - Rob

Her majesty doesn’t really need to see the hygienist.
I get bad tartare on the inside of my lower front teeth and they need a scrape every few years.
My niece (a vet) offered to do them with the tools she uses for horses I think she was joking…..maybe.

Turkish republic of northern cyprus. Its a "non state". you cant fly to it from anywhere except turkey.
I drive across the border and get an extraction for 40 euro. Just had to two broken off at gum level, covered for the time being, until I decide on implants or not, and half a molar filled = 50 euro.
Turkish doctor, UK NHS trained.
Medical tourism is alive and well. :lol: :lol:
