• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with DeWalt Dust extractors?

I have been fortunate to be offered a bit of a discount, and wondering if it works be a good buy?

I currently use a small hover - which didn't really cut the mustard!

Although I'm planning on building a workshop next year (delayed from this year!), I don't plan on installing a fixed extraction system, so am looking for a portable one that can be used in the shop and around the house during renovations.

Alternatively, can anyone recommend anything else instead?

Is it a dust extractor or a chip collector ? Depends on what machines you are wanting to extract from.

Check out the reviews on this vac. The filter seems to block when used for ash and so could be a problem with fine sawdust/sanding dust too.
Combining "incredibly cheap" with "Rutlands" normally rings alarm bells with me but this may be OK for light use.

Mmmm..I'm tempted to get one of those for stock, as it were. I reckon you could also use it to provide a wet facility to a non-wet/dry vacuum.
 
I've heard good things about the ALDI and Lidl ones too.
I use a cheapo MacAlister? from B&Q which I bought years ago, and it still works fine as a secondary one - for sweeping up and attaching to lighter machines etc. Has a power take-off too.
