We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. I have contacted the seller of a stash of old tools to tell her what she has actually got, and suggesting that she withdraw it from sale to list the items separately. It's here:

There is a router plane hidden in one of the drawers, towards the end of the sequence of photos. From what I can see it seems complete. There are cranked gouges, and lots of other gouges. Count them at £10 to £20 each, and the router plane at £100 to £200, depending on what it is, and she is selling a job lot worth maybe £400 for about £30 at the moment. If she doesn't withdraw it from sale as I suggest, then someone could snaffle an absolute bargain.
 
Looks to be a tool chest that belonged to a pattern maker judging by the amount of long incannel paring gouges in various sweeps as well as the cranked gouges.

Not only is there a Router plane, but there is also a smaller one on top of that one if you look closely :lol:
 
She's a professional Ebayer so she should know what she's doing but, I agree, someone's going to get a bargain especially as it's collection only.
 
I don't spend as much time looking on eBay as I used to, but I am sure that a full tool chest like that will have been noticed by plenty of tool dealers and buyers.

She'll only be underselling it if she accepts someone's low offer before the auction finishes or refuses to cooperate with people wanting to arrange for a courier to collect it.
 
Oh and btw I agree that it's a pattern maker's chest. As well as what Dan said, there's a special long tooth marking gauge, with its wedge removed (but visible). Here it is in an old book:

There's also a specialist combination marking and bevel gauge, patented in 1938.

Well, I have spent quite a bit of time staring hard at a chest of pattern maker's tools over the last couple of years... ;)
 
And there was me hoping to get some nice tools for a decent price, ah well. Will just have to spend my birthday money on even rarer and harder to source continental charcuterie instead :(
 
It just sold for £206 with the winning bid placed in the last few seconds. Not as outrageous as it was but still a bargain for someone, but they'll need to put some work in if they do want to split it out and list everything separately. I hope they find all the contents they were expecting!
 
They'd have made a profit paying £400, so it's still real bargain. I hope, just for sentimental reasons, that someone has bought it to use, and will keep the tools together.
