Economical way to post to France

My missus has a pair of boots that she needs to send back to France. Value is £250 which seems to be the killer. £18.75 loading on Myparceldelivery.

Are there any good ways of sending stuff to France from the UK that don't cost an arm and a leg?

Roger, stuff that is sent to us comes via the Post Office and would be no cheaper.
If I can be of any help I should be in the UK around Xmas. If you can get the boots to SE London I could bring them back to France.

Is this a faulty goods return?
how much do they weigh?

When I was in France earlier in the year I noticed DFD parcel vans over there too.
It might mean that as the company operates in both countries, their costs might be lower??

Thanks, chaps. These boots need to get back within 10 days and so your kind offer thanks, Andy, doesn't fit their window.

Since posting SWMBO told me in no uncertain terms 'Do you think I'd pay that much for some gardening boots?' ...closer to £95 and so cost is down to around £27 and guess she'll just have to bite the bullet. Misleading website unfortunately by Aigle.

EDIT: Just checked out Interlink and they look very promising - even without that discount code!

Ummm...pardon my ignorance, but why should the value of the item make a difference in the shipping cost? Unless you have to pay some kind of customs duty or tax, but wouldn't that be the same no matter how you shipped them?

Insurance - if you make a claim for lost or damaged goods in transit.

No duties, tax etc to pay for goods transported within the EU other than local VAT if applicable.

Kirk, it is the insurance cover that drives the shipping cost.
If you don't insure then there is no comeback if it gets lost. The carriers tend to quote a low(ish) price for the carriage and make their money on the insurance cover.

Up until yesterday, I'd have agreed with you Bob. And it is still true if you book via aggregate sites like MyParcelDelivery. But booking directly with Interlink/DPD, not only was the price cheaper to begin with but the base level cover of £75 was much, much higher then the paltry sums offered by MyParcelDelivery.

And it gets even better....to increase cover to £250 with Interlink was a paltry £4.

I'm always booking directly with the courier from now on.
