• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Finally getting around to saying hello

Hello all, what a great resource this is. I'm an enthusiastic hobbyist sometimes biting off more than I can chew but (usually) enjoy the process as much as the finished article. Found this site when searching around for tips on making a diminished stile door. This particular issue is part of a rather ongoing project in fitting out my second timber frame. Timber frame 2 including ground work is ongoing since March 2022 while also sneaking in other smaller projects, general life as well as my real job. I try to use traditional techniques and handtools when possible but happy to embrace modern materials and approaches if I think they're up to snuff. Once the door is made, it'll be onto the sliding sashes and a few fixed lights and this will be finished. Then back to the massive evergrowing list of smaller projects I'm keen to start. The door is for this frame.

The inside is mostly finished including our old reclaimed kitchen floor made from long junckers oak boards individually handsawn, partially retongued and regrooved into custom staves. The contrasting border is from a couple of old doors and the whole floor still needs sanded to final level so there's some old stain on pieces. The wide focus makes this appear more narrow than it is but otherwise couldn't fit much in.

This is a sliding sash I made a couple of years ago and will be similar to what I intend to make, glaze and install though definitely not in walnut!

Wow that looks fantastic.
Welcome-it's a good natured ,well managed forum.

Welcome PlaneIron, from Gloucestershire.

From what you've said, I think you're going to fit right in here. It's a great forum and I've learnt a huge amount from the knowledgeable regulars. I think we're all going to learn a lot from you and I hope that we're able to reciprocate as well.

Welcome from Salisbury. As you've already guessed, we like pictures, the more the merrier! - Rob

I really like the look of your cabin and your window and I thoroughly agree that for us hobbyists, we can enjoy the journey as much as the finished product.

hello and and a 2nd welcome from me. Although I’ve never made a door nor a building I can fully understand the journey and the thought processes in getting there are all part of the fun.

Welcome, Planeiron. What a great little project!

Love the cabin! Something I’ve always wanted to build but never had the opportunity.
Welcome to the club. Would you care to let us know your name? If you want you can add it to your badge.

Welcome from a fellow Co.Downer**, now a refugee in among the great pool of Geordieland!

**(One of the famous boundary posts was at the end of our work drive).

I'm wondering if a certain woodyard - opposite Gate Seven of H&W, was it? - is still going? McGregors?
