• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Good evening all

Today my staircase was delivered. One of the online suppliers, pretty much what i expected for the money.

2 treads to a small landing
3 Kite winder
straight flight to landing

I’ve only ever fitted a couple of straight flights ( and that was 20 years ago), arrived as a seven tread flight and rest is flat packed but easily identifiable as to what goes where, box of wedges and dowels.

Fitting guide provide says start at top and work down, i’ll dry fit and support it all first , then strip and do it for real.

Any tips or hints.

I’m confident that i’ve measured correctly .

Many thanks

Dry fitting a good idea its heavy so you can get props ready, make sure you don't forget to fit the handrail as you go as its easy to forget!

Try the draw bores dry as the last few stairs I have fitted actually pull apart when the dowels are fitted, this is a right pain when its all glued up.

Defiantly start from the top making sure you are happy with your joist cut in the newel and string, allow for what ever flooring you are going to finish with and fit the top riser.

Fit your kites as you go as they can be a problem if left out as they wont fit if you leave it till last, if you do its not the end of the world but the treads, strings and risers have to be adjusted to fit.

Have some ratchet straps handy just in case something wont pull up.

Have some water and clean cloths ready to wipe the glue and dry them off.

Don't forget the hand rail.

Have fun, Merlin
