• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have a non working fridge and would like to use it for paint storage. Right now I haul the paint to the house for the winter. Figure if I put an incandescent bulb inside maybe I can keep the paint from freezing1000003736.jpg. Any one done this or thoughts?

I think you'll need a timer or a thermostat to control it, otherwise it could get too warm with a bulb running 24 hours a day.

How cold will the inside of the fridge get without being heated? I know it gets cold where you are but knowing by how much you need to raise the temperature would be an important consideration.

Well below freezing Andy , lately mornings have been at or below 0 C. Average winter temp. is between -20 and - 40 C.

Installed fixture with a flood light and hung it from the ceiling of fridge. Took temp. before turning the unit on. 1000003737.jpg1000003740.jpg1000003741.jpg1000003739.jpg

Get a temperature controller from Amazon or similar - search STC 1000.

It does cooling or heating and has a hysteresis setting so you can say have it turn off at 10C but not come back on until it drops to 4C or whatever you want. Instructions will be confusing but plenty of online help if you search. About £10 UK but probably less for you?

The flood light is working well, 4 hours later lower part of fridge read 34 C the top portion 42 C.
I'm sure I have a thermostat in my electrical storage bins, maybe install it mid week.

A bit off topic, but years ago I used an old fridge carcase as part of a cold smoker. The handy racks and cleanable interior were great, but the insulation retained the heat from the smoke and cooked the products too much. Even with several metres of horizontal steel pipe for the smoke before it entered the fridge at the bottom and a wide chimney outlet at the top, it got too hot.
